Triton is the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. He is the misshapen
prince of the sea. He has a dolphin's tale, scales, gills, green hair and
a green beard. He was of a kindly disposition and often flew in the midst
of Poseidon's storms with his smaller trident calming the waters. He has
a special twisted sea shell that he blows and it calms or raises the waters.
It is said that it's sound was so terrible when loudly blown that is caused
the giants to run, thinking it was the sound of some wild beast. He was
once challenged to a blowing contest by Misenus, the trumpeter of Aeneas,
Triton cast him out to sea in jealousy.
