The 1962-63 Warriors had a very rough season finishing 2-8 in DIL play and 6-11 overall. Bishop won the DIL with a 9-1 record while Boron finished in second place at 8-2. Warriors Suffer Losing Season in 1962-63
Barry Jackson Selected To All-DIL Team
Head coach Chuck Ferrari coached his final team during the 1962-63 campaign ending his six year reign at Tehachapi High School. During his tenure, Ferrari's teams were 36-33 in Desert-Inyo League play and 61-49 overall. While his teams never won a league championship, his best team was the 1959-60 Warriors, finishing in 2nd place behind Bishop with a 10-3 record; 16-7 overall.
The Warrior starters included Bob Blair, Barry Jackson, Larry Mather, Steve Kromer, and Mike Farrell. Dan Ursua also provided some punch off the bench as the sixth man.
In the pre-league season, the Warriors won 2 and lost 3 in tournament play. In the annual Trona Tournament, the Warriors lost to Trona, but defeated Lone Pine to finish in 3rd place. At the annual Kern County Tournament in Bakersfield, the Warriors lost to Garces, overwhelmed McFarland, and then lost to Burroughs in the consolation championship game. No Warriors were selected to the all-tournament teams in Trona or Bakersfield. The Warriors also defeated Maricopa twice in a non-league games, 62-42, and 71-39.
In league play, the Warriors two wins were against Boron and Lone Pine. The win over second place Boron was considered a huge upset.
Jackson was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 217 points in 17 games for a 12.8 points per game average. Jackson had two 25 point games during the season against Burroughs and Maricopa. Jackson was also selected to the All-DIL Honorable Mention team.
