The Tehachapi High School Athletic Department recently released the 2010 Warrior football schedule. The schedule features a 10 game regular season format, with five pre-season games and five South Sequoia League games.

The dean of Kern County coaches, Steve Denman, will return for his 29th season as the head coach of the Warrior program. Denman has amassed a career 243-94-4 coaching record enroute to 12 league championships, 6 CIF runner-up finishes, and 6 CIF championships.

The season opener will find the Warriors making a long trip to Tulare County to face the Exeter Monarchs in a first ever meeting between the two schools. Exeter finished the 2009 campaign with an overall 7-5 record; 5-1 in the Central Sequoia League, behind CIF Central Section champion Kingsburg.

In Week 2, the Warriors will host the rival Garces Rams in the annual Ogilvie Bowl. Tehachapi defeated Garces in Bakersfield, 27 to 6, in 2009. The Warriors lead the overall series by a slim 18-17-2 in competition that dates back to 1946.

The Warriors will also be home in Week 3, renewing an old rivalry with North High School of Bakerfield. The two schools last met in 1954 with the overall series tied at 1-1. The Stars from Oildale won the contest in 1954 by a 26 to 18 margin while the Warriors won the 1953 game by a final 19 to 6 count.

In Week 4, the Warriors will travel to play Burroughs on September 24. Tehachapi defeated the school from Ridgecrest in a thriller, 42-34, in 2009. Tehachapi leads the overall series 10 to 8.

After a "bye" week, the Warriors return to action in their final pre-league tuneup against Rosamond. The Warriors will make the short 20 minute bus trip to Rosamond in Week 5. The Warriors lead the series 27-5 in games dating back to 1965.

The Warriors open up league play on October 15 at home against upstart Shafter. SSL experts are again pointing to the Warriors, Taft, and Wasco as the pre-season favorites to win the 2010 league crown. All three schools shared a piece of the crown in 2009 with identical 4-1 records in league play.

The Warriors then play host to Arvin on October 22; a trip to Bakersfield Christian is planned for October 29; a big game at home versus Wasco on November 5; and the regular season finale at Taft on November 12.

The Warriors have won seven SSL titles since joining the league in 1992 and four CIF Central Section championships. If the Warriors qualify for the post-season playoffs, the competition will be a little tougher as the Warriors have been elevated from Division III to Division II beginning in 2010.
