2011 Warrior Football Schedule
The Tehachapi High School Athletic Department recently released the 2011 Warrior football schedule. The schedule features a 10 game regular season format, with five pre-season games and five South Sequoia League games.
The dean of Kern County coaches, Steve Denman, will return for his 30th season as the head coach of the Warrior program. Denman has amassed a career 256-95-4 coaching record enroute to 13 league championships, 6 CIF runner-up finishes, and 7 CIF championships.
On Friday, August 26, 2011, all three high school football teams are scheduled to travel to Bakersfield to meet Highland High School in a trio of pre-season scrimmages.
The season opener will find the Warriors playing host to the Exeter Monarchs. In the inaugural meeting between the two schools in Tulare County last year, the Warriors erupted in the 2nd half to outlast the Monarchs, 38-25. Exeter finished the 2010 campaign with an overall 8-4 record; 5-1 in the Central Sequoia League, behind CIF Central Section Division III champion Kingsburg.
In Week 2, the Warriors will travel to Bakersfield to play rival Garces in the annual Ogilvie Bowl. Tehachapi and Garces played twice last season, with Garces winning the regular season game, and the Warriors winning the late season playoff game, 34-21. The Warriors lead the overall series by a slim 19-18-2 margin in competition that dates back to 1946.
The Warriors will travel to Bakersfield again in Week 3, playing the North High School Stars. The two schools met last season for the first time since 1954, with Tehachapi winning, 19 to 13. The Warriors lead the overall series, 2-1. Both North and Garces are members of the Southeast Yosemite League.
In Week 4, on September 23, the Warriors will be on the mountain to take on Burroughs High School. Last season, Tehachapi defeated the school from Ridgecrest in a thriller, 21-14. Tehachapi leads the overall series against Burros, a member of the Desert Sky Conference, 11 to 8.
After a "bye" week, the Warriors return home for Week 5 action. The Warriors final pre-league tuneup will be against Rosamond, a team they defeated 47-0 in 2010. The Warriors lead the series 28-5 in games dating back to 1965.
The Warriors open up league play on October 14 in Shafter. The Warriors are the defending SSL Champions and have won the SSL eight times since joining the league in 1992.
The Warriors then travel to Arvin on October 21; return to home on October 28 against Bakersfield Christian; another trip to Wasco on November 4; and the regular season finale at home against Taft on November 11.
