2012 Warrior Football Schedule
The Tehachapi High School Athletic Department recently released the 2012 Warrior football schedule. The schedule features a 10 game regular season format, with five pre-season games and five Southeast Yosemite League games.
The dean of Kern County coaches, Steve Denman, will return for his 31st season as the head coach of the Warrior program. Denman has amassed a career 266-97-4 coaching record enroute to 14 league championships, 6 CIF runner-up finishes, and 7 CIF championships.
On Friday, August 17, 2012, all three high school football teams are scheduled to host South High School of Bakersfield in a trio of pre-season scrimmages at 3:30 pm (Frosh); 5:00 pm (JV); and 7:00 pm (Varsity).
The season opener will find the Warriors traveling to Tulare County to play the Exeter Monarchs. The Warriors lead the all-time series, 2-0, defeating Exeter on the mountain, 54 to 21, in 2011. Exeter finished the 2011 campaign with an overall 3-7 record; 1-5 in the Central Sequoia League.
In Week 2, the Warriors will travel to Ridgecrest to face Burroughs High School. Last season, Tehachapi defeated the school from Ridgecrest in a barnburner, 33-20. Tehachapi leads the overall series against the Burros, a member of the Desert Sky Conference, 12 to 8. The Burros finished 6-6 in 2011.
Week 3, on September 7, pits the Warriors against Liberty of Bakersfield. The Warriors hold a 2-0 lead in the series, last playing the Patriots in back-to-back games in 2000 and 2001. Liberty finished 8-3 in 2011, playing in the tough Southwest Yosemite League.
In Week 4, the Warriors continue their series with former South Sequoia League (SSL) opponent Arvin. Tehachapi leads the series, 17-4, defeating Arvin in 2011, 37-27.
After a "bye" week, the Warriors play at home on September 28 for their final non-league game against West High (Bakersfield). In their only meeting in school history, Tehachapi defeated West, 48-27, in a 2010 playoff game on the mountain.
On October 5, the Warriors will enter play for the first time in the new Southeast Yosemite League (SEYL) against East High of Bakersfield. Tehachapi has never played East High in a varsity level game. The Warriors are joining the new league after 20 seasons in the SSL --- a league they dominated in recent years.
In other SEYL games, the Warriors face Highland-Bakersfield on October 12; host North High-Bakersfield on October 19; travel to Foothill-Bakerfield on October 26; and resume their league play rivalry with Garces on November 2 in Tehachapi.
Garces is the defending back-to-back champions of the SEYL, winning league titles in 2011 and 2010.
