Warrior Football Schedule
The Tehachapi High School Athletic Department recently released the 2013 Warrior football schedule. The schedule features a 10 game regular season format, with five pre-season games and five Southeast Yosemite League games.
The dean of Kern County coaches, Steve Denman, will return for his 32nd season as the head coach of the Warrior program. Denman has amassed a career 274-100-4 coaching record enroute to 14 league championships, 6 CIF runner-up finishes, and 7 CIF championships.
On Friday, August 23, 2013, all three high school football teams are scheduled to play South High School in Bakersfield in a trio of pre-season scrimmages.
The season opener will find the Warriors hosting the Exeter Monarchs. This is the third consecutive year the Warriors have opened the season with the school from Tulare County. Exeter finished the 2012 campaign with an overall 5-6 record; 2-2 in the Central Sequoia League.
In Week 2, the Warriors will be at home again against Burroughs High School from Ridgecrest. Last season, Tehachapi defeated the Burros in a close game, 22-15. Tehachapi leads the overall series against the Burros, a member of the Desert Sky Conference, 13 to 8. The Burros finished 3-1 in league play earning a co-championship; 6-6 overall including two post-season playoff games.
Week 3, on September 13, pits the Warriors against Liberty of Bakersfield. The Warriors hold a 2-1 lead in the series, but the Patriots blistered the Warriors 45 to 7 last year in Tehachapi. Liberty finished 2012 with an overall 8-5 record; 3-2 in the tough Southwest Yosemite League.
In Week 4, the Warriors continue their long time series with former South Sequoia League (SSL) opponent Arvin. Tehachapi leads the series, 18-4, defeating Arvin in 2012, 23-13, in Tehachapi. Arvin was 7-5 in 2012; 3-3 in league play.
After a "bye" week, the Warriors play their final non-league game at home on October 4 against West High (Bakersfield). The two schools played twice in 2012, with Tehachapi winning the regular season contest, and West ending the Warrior season in a post-season playoff game in Tehachapi. The Warriors lead the overall series, 2-1.
In a rare Saturday afternoon game on October 12, the Warriors will begin their second season in the Southeast Yosemite League with a game at East Bakersfield. Tehachapi defeated East High School for the first time at the varsity level in 2012.
In other SEYL games, the Warriors face Highland-Bakersfield on October 18; travel to North High-Bakersfield on October 25; host Foothill-Bakerfield on November 1; and play in Bakersfield for their annual rivalry game with Garces on November 8.
Garces has won the SEYL the past three consecutive seasons and are the defending Division II CIF Central Section champions.
