Garces Back On The Schedule
For the third straight year, the 2016 Warriors will participate in the highly competitive South Yosemite League (SYL).
Bakersfield area powerhouse Ridgeview has been the league champion the past two seasons and figures to again be a pre-season favorite.
The Warriors begin league play on the mountain playing host to Independence on October 7. Tehachapi finished 3-1 in SYL play
in 2015 finishing in 2nd place behind Ridgeview.
The Warriors will play a 10 game schedule with 5 home games and 5 away games; with no "bye" week on the schedule this season.
The first five games of the season are pre-league games. The 2016 season will also feature the chase
by head coach Steven Denman for career win number 300. Denman will need five more wins to reach that iconic number.
Dropped from the 2016 pre-league schedule are Foothill, Centennial, and Arvin. Replacing these teams on the schedule are Garces, Bakersfield Christian,
and Paraclete-Lancaster. The Warriors have had some epic battles with these three schools dating back many years ago.
The season opener will be Friday night, September 2, in Ridgecrest as the Warriors play the Burroughs Burros. The Warriors defeated Burros, 7-0,
in a defensive battle in 2015 and lead the overall series 15-9.
Week 2 features a game against Garces in Bakersfield on September 9. Not just any game, but a renewed rivalry game known as the "Ogilvie Bowl".
Garces leads the overall series 23-19-2 in games dating back to 1946. The two schools last played each other in 2013 in a post-season playoff game won by Garces.
The Ogilvie Bowl is a tribute to Gary Ogilvie who coached at both Garces and Tehachapi.
Week 3 features an old South Sequoia League foe as the Warriors again travel to Bakersfield to play Bakersfield Christian on September 16.
The Warriors lead the overall series 5-1 defeating BCHS, 35-7, in their last game in 2011.
The Warriors finally return to home on September 23 to play the Paraclete Spirits of Lancaster. Paraclete and Tehachapi last played in 2005,
with the Warriors owning an overall 17-6 lead in the series which dates back to 1965.
The final Week 5 tune-up game before league play will be a home game against North Bakersfield on September 30. The Warriors defeated
the Stars 34-12 last season, and lead the overall series 8-1.
The dean of Kern County coaches, Denman will be in his 35th season as the head coach of the Warrior football program. Denman has amassed
a career 295-112-4 coaching record enroute to 14 league championships, 6 CIF runner-up finishes, and 7 CIF championships.
