Jonny Sangster joined playing bass so Scott could switch to guitar, but he left and was replaced by his brother Jim before the band would record under that line up. When John left he moved to Denmark forming Sharing Patrol. He later moved back to Seattle and joined Jason Finn of The Presidents of the United States of America and brother Jim in The Congratulators
They recorded their second album, "Topsy Turvy" in 1985. The album was reviewed in Rolling Stone and after their third album they moved to California indie label Frontier Records. Later that year they recorded their first EP "Refreshments", and then a year later they recorded "Totally Lost". In 1989 Chuck left the band and was replaced by Kurt Bloch of The Fastbacks. Their next album was "Beans and Tolerence", followed later that year by "This One's for the Ladies".
In the 90's the band slowed down a little, releasing only 4 albums: "Includes a Helmet" in 90', "Electric Bird Digest" in 91', "Take it Like a Matador" in 93' and "A Tribute to Music" in 97. The band is one of the longest running in the Seattle scene.
Upcoming is a new YFF album titled "Because we hate you" that will be packaged with the new Minus 5 album titled, "Let the war against music begin". The album should be out Feb. 28th.
Along with the Congratulators Jim has played in Blunt Objects, The Picketts, The Squirrels, The Lowebeats, and The Model Rocket's surf project The Infant Kings.
Scott McCaughey has been recording and touring with REM. He is also in Minus Five, The Squirrels, Tuatara, and a Nick Lowe cover band known as The Lowebeats.
Check out this article from the Rocket where they all are now..
Recently Scott joined Tom Price of Gas Huffer, Steve, Mark and Dan of Mudhoney and Bill Henderson of Girl Trouble in The New Strychinies (aka The New Orginal Sonic Sound), a Sonics cover band.
