Honestly, my hero. I admire this man to
no end. Read his autobiography (Long Walk to Freedom... a
bit long but worth it). Not a perfect man but he exemplifies
commitment to a cause greater than oneself. In the pockmarked
history of Africa (Bibles and guns in the worst of ways), his life's
work is a sign of hope. I'll tell you more in a bit...
African National Congress (ANC) site with Mandela articles and
resources. Study South African history... fascinating.

Admittedly, his political views have turned pretty sour these
days. I disagree harshly with a number of his statements.
Still, I admire his past if not his present.

I could marry this woman! But for a
noticeable age gap. And she's married. But you know what I
mean. Listen to her on 89.3 KPCC (Talk of the City). A bright,
good-natured woman, she'll keep you up to date on city politics (L.A.)
and a whole range of random, interesting subjects. She's smart and
she's sweet. But she's also an award-winning journalist who
"made it big" covering the King beatings. Great
interviewer too. And I enjoy her voice
- perfect for radio. She's all right. <sigh> Not
enough Kitty Felde's in this world.
Here's a short "postcard" she wrote to the Savvy
Traveler on her visit to a ravaged Rwanda. click |

Good Pastor Ray. Funny guy. Godly
guy. Made the difference in my life. All
of those drive-by shootings were making me tired and it wasn't good for
my car. The spectre of Everest has ever haunted my dreams.
Wait, this is suppose to be a true story. Back in high school, I'd
fallen into some nebulous mess of faith when I heard Pastor Ray on the
radio. I was hooked, considering how I'd never heard someone teach about
God with such a tone. God was matter-of-fact and very near.
Sure, the Bible may show as much but it's important to hear it in
the subtext of a sermon. Though my Christian roots are
attributed to my parents, it was through Pastor Ray that my walk truly
began. A delight and torment. <smile>
When I finally had the opportunity to say thank you
to Pastor Ray, I ended up bawling like an unashamed baby. And all I
meant to do was shake his hand. I was surprised; from whence did these
tears flow? Well, if I didn't clasp his hand then, I would've come
Judgment Day. He gave me a hug and that was that.
And then we went to get Mexican food. The sauce was
pretty spicy.
