Here we have a close-up of Broadway South, and the area around it, the main spine of the town plan and route into the town centre. Sites of interest include St Francis College (original home of St Christoper's School, and designed an "open air" school) and Sollershott Circus - Britain's first traffic roundabout! Move your mouse pointer across the image for links to Andrew Miller's Guided Tour of Letchworth. Andrew's map of central Letchworth (approximately on the same scale as the above picture) is also a good guide to what's what.

Letchworth - an otherwise small town in north Hertfordshire, England - is famous as being the world's first "Garden City", being founded in 1903 by Ebenezer Howard. Many social and planning innovations that we take for granted today first appeared in Letchworth. For more information on the town see here. |
