Offseason News Around the League

Marshall Signs Bulls One day after a door is closed for Donyell Marshall, being cut from Utah Jazz roster, another door opens, being the new member of the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls called a news conference for Monday to officially introduce their newest addition. And the information on the specifics of the deal will be addressed then.

Marshall playing in the forward position spent the past two seasons with the Utah Jazz. His stats were exceptional and he was a great offensive spark on that team, averaging 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Donyell Marshall was second in scroing and rebounding for the two seasons with the Jazz. Personally, Utah did him no justice, they are missing out on a great player. Thats like cutting Scottie Pippen in the Jordan days of Chicago. Yep I said it. hehehe

"His averages against Eastern Conference teams were three points and two rebounds higher than against Western Conference teams and he's a natural fit for us," Krause said. Yes, Krause, hopefully Donyell Marshall can fit in well.

The Utah Jazz signed four year player Matt Harpring to join their organization. The 6-7, 230-pound Harpring, who is versatile playing either forward or guard, has been reported from the Philadelphia Inquirer that it was worth $18.5 million over four years.

Utah Jazz President Dennis Haslam shows his contentment in this situation. "Matt brings to our team the kind of energy our coaches appreciate in a player," Haslam said. "He will fit into Jerry's system and will be able to play multiple positions when he is on the floor. He's still a young player, but he's improved every year he's been in the league and this is a clear indication of his desire and attitude.

He joins the Jazz coming from the best pro season of his career, when he averaged 11.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 81 games for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is sure to be a productive player who will make an offensive impact on Utah.

Patrick Ewing Leaves Orlando Patrick Ewing will not join the Orlando Magic next season because he is he is still thinking of future oppurtunites of his career. This may be due to the last seasons of his NBA career being plagued with on going illnesses such as patella tendinitis in his right knee. Also Ewing turned 40 earlier this month and is contemplating retirement.

The Magic recently traded center Don Reid to Denver and have Andrew DeClercq, Steven Hunter and Olumide Oyedeji at the center position and expect Horace Grant to return in 2002-03 season.

Ewing was an All-Star in 11 of his 15 seasons with the New York Knicks. He was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in a four-player deal in 2000 and averaged 9.6 points and 7.4 rebounds in his only season there.

World Championship NewsLebanon was waiting Thursday for the United States to approve entry visas for three of its basketball players and 12 team managers, who are to join their team to prepare for the World Basketball Championship in Indianapolis later this month.

Due to a more higher precaution in giving visas because of the September 11 attacks, the granting of Lebanon's visas has been held up.

The U.S. ambassador in Lebanon, Vincent Battle, told UPI that he "very much regrets" that some members of the Lebanese national basketball team have not been able to travel to Indianapolis but expressed hope that the matter could be resolved within 24 hours.

Battle also said He said that "every effort is being made to process all these applications as quickly as possible consistent with all relevant security concerns.

Feature Story: To Cotend With The West, the Nets Get the Best

After the hurt and pain of the NBA Finals sweep that the New Jersey Nets had to take, now its time to grow and learn ways to contend with the Western Conference. Doing this, they let go of forward Keith Van Horn whos performance during the Finals was much less than it should be.

These Eastern Conference Champions are trying to get tougher, and gain tenacious defense by aquiring Dikembe Mutombo of the Philadelphia Sixers by losing their center Todd MacCollugh as well. As we all know, the closest they got to the Lakers during the finals was MacCollugh occassionally swaying Shaquille Oneal a little while Oneal slammed it down, so a change was defintely in order.

"This was pretty much a no-brainer," Scott said Tuesday night. "This fits more the mold of the team I'd like to have."

Between Mutombo and Martin, Kidd and Richard Jefferson, these Nets are the team to beat in the East. Sophmore Richard Jefferson is taking a well-deserved starting place and I believe he will make the transition well. And picking up Chris Childs, who is a strong reserve guard will really add to the talent and potential that is brewing in New Jerey.
