This 22-pounder took a homemade, top-water lure
while I was whipping along the Kipahulu shoreline.
I never should have landed it (my mainline was
only #25 test). Sometimes you get lucky.

My grandfather's 100-pounder, caught on January 9,1965 at a
spot on Maui's southeast shore. Every year, I return to fish this
this same spot, on the same weekend, in his memory.
