The Gabba Match - A Tragedy in Pictures The infamous "Gabba Match" ended so tragically that these pictures need a black background. Chasing South Africa's 300 in January 1998, New Zealand collpased to 6/124 before Chris Cairns, then Adam Parore and Dion Nash, gave New Zealand a chance of victory. With Parore out and Vettori at the crease, it was up to Nash to do the impossible. He lapped the penultimate ball and landed it on the boundary rope - the famous "non-six" that would have tied the scores. New Zealand needed three from the last ball, with Nash on strike. Attempting a match-winning four, he was spectacularly caught on the boundary by Lance Kluesner and New Zealand lost by two runs. Nash was out for 38 in his first game back since two years out with his back injury. The following pictures cannot convey the true feeling of that game, but - to borrow a line from The Simpsons - you can try to pick the exact moment at which Dion's heart breaks in two.
