Newton le Willows MXC
Motocross at Bleak Hall
Saturday/Sunday 2nd/3rd August
Report by John Radcliff
Two days of hot racing in the
summer heat for some 110 riders of all ages from Newton le Willows MXC with
Jim Murro and Paul Teasdale giving their best on Sunday as well. The perfect
answer to a week that had seen torrential rainstorms and flooding in some
parts of Lancashire.
Saturday
Slightly smaller fields on
Saturday because Mums and Dads have to work. (So do some of the offspring).
Keith Boyle led the Adult Open home with some hard and consistent riding.
Steve Turner finished second a good result for one of our elder statesmen
with Simon Rooney third. The Adult 125 ran at the same time with Richard
Blakeman first followed by Gary Cookson and Lee Boyle. A rejuvenated Tony
Holker took a good fourth. Sam Stuart took his first win in the Schoolboy
125 with Danny Crossley second and Simon Ashe third.
Danny Bamber did a low flying
act to win the Big Wheel 85 with the absence of archrival Nathan Parker
noticeable. Kevin Wells and Chris Sanders fought out second and third places
respectively. The Small Wheel 85s followed Richie Worral home with the
whole field fighting hard for their places. Jack Owen was 2nd
with Mickey Caunce third. Lee Bamber continued his domination of the Juniors
with a good win with Chris Shallcross and Ryan Shepherd following him for
the top three places. The good weather and track conditions allowed the
Autos to ride the full track and they all made the most of it. Lewis
Petfield took the overall win chased hard by Malachi Thomas and Jack
McCarten.
Sunday
Matt Carrington started the day
with a win in the Adult Open with Keith Boyle continuing his hard riding
ways for second. Scott Davids made a welcome comeback to the top three after
a long time away. Jim Murro came to his home Club to air a replacement
engine in his KTM and very narrowly missed an overall win in the combined
Adult races. A clash of bars with Matt Carrington in the last race saw him
down but a quick remount put him back in third overall with an Adult 125
win. Paul Teasdale had bike problems in the first race that spoilt his
chances of a good overall. Gary Cookson took second and Mike Grey third
Adult 125 places. The Schoolboy 125 went to Richard Blakeman (Yes, he has a
dual licence). David Parker and Danny Crossley fought out second and third
between them.
In the Big Wheel 85 the ongoing
Bamber/Parker war took off again in full stride with Danny taking the win
over Nathan. Kevin Wells was in his usual hard riding form to take third.
Lewis Kay was the victor in the Small Wheel 85 with Bradley Harrison second
and Stuart Ratcliffe third. Lee Bamber continued his winning ways in the
Juniors but Chris Shallcross and Ryan Shepherd swapped place for second and
third. Wesley Smallshaw was the victor in the Auto class followed by Lewis
Petfield with Chelsea Gowland improving on her Saturday fourth to take third
place.
