For sheer Acceleration and speed, nothing beats drag racing - a
race from point-to-point in a straight line on tarmac, no more than a
quarter-mile in length, between two competitors.
Sprints can be similar to drag racing, although the courses
may be up to one mile in length and can either be between two competitors or
individual racing against the clock.
In drag racing and sprinting, you can start with your basic road bike in
"run what you brung" classes or, if you're feeling more adventurous,
you can go for more tricked-out, tuned race bike. The fastest machines are
the Top Fuel class which burn nitromethane fuel, have double engines - 1700cc
displacement for supercharged motors and an incredible 2700cc for V8 engined
bikes.
These motorcycles will run a standing quarter-mile in around seven seconds
and go through the timing light at over 180mph!
