Road racing is a thrilling high speed sport
that takes place on hard surfaced roads. Popular events like the Isle of
Man TT are run on ordinary roads which are closed to the public for their
duration. Closed circuit racing, which is also referred to as road racing,
takes place on on permanent circuits like Donington Park, Brands Hatch and
Oulton Park.
There are now
opportunities
for youngsters to get involved with junior road racing for riders of 13-16 years
of age, then progressing through to adult classes for solos, sidecars, single,
twin and multi-cylinder machines, plus classic and vintage events.
Being
run on permanent tracks with excellent facilities for spectators and the added
bonus of television coverage, road racing attracts the greatest number of
fans. There are classes for slightly modified road machines too, so
without much time or effort a fan can become a competitor and take his or her
place on the grid.
