Nicole
Hackett would have to be classified as one of the
best young female triathletes in the World.
At the
age of only 22 she has had a big rise to fame since
competing in her first Triathlon in 1996 (first
major races 1997).
She
has always had a swimming background as she started
swimming when she was young and took up triathlon
at the age of 15 because she was bored of Surf Life
Saving and wanted a challenge.
Nicole
lives and trains in Toowoon Bay on the NSW Central
Coast and attended Gosford High School for her last
two years of schooling - years 11 and 12. (She also
was a student at Green Point (7-10) and Terrigal
Primary school).
In
1997, just out of high school, she won the World
Junior Triathlon Championships which were held in
Perth.
In
1997/1998 Nicole continued with her great form and
sucessfully defended her Junior world title as well
as competiting in her 1st ITU (International
Triathlon Union) World Cup race and placing in the
top 10, even though she was racing against much
older and much more experienced Athletes.
She
also went well in the St. George F1 (Formula 1)
series.
In the
98/99 season - Nicole's first full season of
professional triathlon there were some great
results*:
1st -
St George Formula 1 Series (99)
4th -
Noosa ITU World Cup (98)
2nd -
Gamagori ITU World Cup (99)
2nd -
Ishigaki ITU World Cup (99)

In
1999 she won the highly acclaimed Australian Sprint
series - the Formula 1 or F1. Nicole also showed
her versatitly by coming runner-up in the 99
Aquathlon World Championships. Also, in her first
full pro year
2000
to date would be, in my opinion, Nicole's "best"
year so far, Although 2001 is making a charge!!
:-)
In
2000 Nicole again won the F1 but also won her first
major Olympic distance race on the Australian
'circuit' and it happened to be the 2000 Australian
Championships. Later that year in Perth she won her
first senior World Championships although the event
was marred with controversy and the events
following it were to, the Worlds 'stuff up' was out
of the Athletes control, The Olympic appeals were
not, But that's another story. 2000 also saw Nicole
represent Australia at the Sydney Olympics, on a
historic day where Triathlon was a first-timer to
the Olympics she finished 9th out of 32 of the
worlds best.
2001
has also been a big year in the Nicole Hackett
story.
She is
now a triple F1 champion and a back to back
Australian champion.
After
gaining selection on the 2001 World Championship
team, Nicole Hackett is keen to show that the World
championship in 2000 wasn't a "fluke" as some may
call it.
Shes
on fire and she just might do it!.
Go
Hackett.
Nicole
is also the first Australian member of the Swatch
Pro Team. The following quote is from the Swatch
website:
"Most
exciting experience was being the first Australian
to join the SWATCH Pro Team and winning the junior
World Championships" - Nicole Hackett
