LEANDA CAVE - 2002 TRIATHLON WORLD CHAMPION!
Congratualtions to Leanda, they were right when the live update said she was having the run of her life! :-) also to Barb Lindquist who won silver with Great Britian's Michelle Dillon winning the bronze.

On the Aussie's front, Michellie Jones was the highest placed in 4th with Nicole Hackett, taking 5th spot. Loretta Harrop finished in 12th spot while Liz Blatchford was 14th with Pip Taylor finishing in 22nd position - the following little bit below is from AAP:

Aussies miss out on Triathlon medals

| Sports Watch ... 11 November 2002 |

Australia's women have missed out on the medals in the triathlon world championships in Mexico as Great Britain stamped its dominance.

Olympic silver medallist Michellie Jones, 33, finished fourth in a time of 2hr 2.25min, with fellow Australian and former world champion Nicole Hackett a further ten seconds back in fifth.

In a stunning finish, Great Britain's Leanda Cave (2:1.31) stormed past American Barb Lindquist (2:1.41) on the final lap of the run leg to win the race and also be crowned the new world champion.

To cap off an impressive outing for the Great Britain team, Michelle Dillon (2:2.11) finished third as temperatures soared into the low 30s at Cancun.

Queenslander Loretta Harrop, who had her bike destroyed on the flight to Mexico before getting a replacement, finished in 12th place - 12 seconds ahead of pre-race favourite and defending champion Siri Lindley of the United States.
