Hackett has series in her
sights
Nicole Hackett needs only a
top 6 finish in the next F1 race in 3 weeks time to win the
series for the 3rd consecutive time.
In what Nicole described as
"one of the hardest races" she has even had to do, her Surf
skills came to the fore in chunderous conditions at Manly
Beach as she won both races in the 'Double Super sprint' and
confirmed it would now be her goal to win the series for a
record equalling 3rd time.
Michellie Jones and USA's Bard
Lindquist are now the only two competiors who can
realistically win the series form here. If Nicole wins the
QLD race of the F1 she will be only the 3rd person in the
womens race to have clean sweeped the series.
The Mens and Womens races will
be shown on Ch 10 next Saturday afternoon from 3-5pm.
Hackett's time for
run/bike/swim (race 1): 26min 5s
Race 2 swim/bike/run: 22min
40s
In the Men's race, although
McCormack was supposedly the winner, Courtney Atkinson was
on the right side of a succesful appeal after footage saw
that McCormack and others, didn't round a turning bouy in
the tough race conditions.

F1 comes to
Sydney
Round 2 of the 2001 KIA F1
Triathlon series hits Manly beach on the 3rd of
February.
This time the 'Double Super
Sprint' format will test the World's best Triathletes --
including Canada's Olympic Gold Medallist, Simon Whitfield.
This will be Whitfield's first race due to an injury which
kept him out of Round 1 ('Enduro' format) in Geelong early
last month.
The Double Super Sprint format
is:
Race 1
2 kilometre run
South Steyne Rd
between Raglan and Wentworth Sts.
7 kilometre bike race
South Steyne Rd
between Raglan and Victoria Sts.
300 swim
Off Manly
Beach
10 minute break
Race 2
2 kilometre run
South Steyne Rd
between Raglan and Wentworth Sts.
7 kilometre bike race
South Steyne Rd
between Raglan and Victoria Sts.
300 swim
Off Manly
Beach
This format is sure to test
the athletes and the variation of the order in which the 3
legs are raced could well see some of the stronger runners
come through & put up a challenge to those athletes who
base their race plan on a tear-away strong swim-ride
combination. On the other hand, stronger runners who may
have a less-stronger swim may see all the hard work 'eaten
up' in the swim by those who have a top-rate swim!.
Interesting to note, In last
years series Race 3 on the Gold Coast was the round which
staged the Double Super Sprint.
In those races Nicole placed
3rd in the first race and 1st in the second race.
Also, in this format
last year, and the years before hand, the Men did a Triple
Super Sprint, Not double.

What is the Kia F1
Series?
The series is 3 races
(previously 5 and previously the 'St George F1 Series')
which are sprint races in a Formula 1 style, much like the
car racing, which is made for Television and the enjoyment
of the audience there at the venue.
Where are the races being
held?
The first race is this weekend
(7th Jan.) in Geelong, Victoria which is the 'Enduro'
format.
Round 2 - February 3, Manly, New South Wales [Double
Super Sprint].
Round 3 - February 25, Gold Coast, Queensland
[Eliminator].
Who's racing?
The field is 20 men and 20
women from 10 countries all over the world.
They included Men Triathlon
Gold Medallist, Canadian Simon Whitfield as well as one of
the 'guns' of F1 racing, Barb Lindquist.
As well as those, the field
includes Aussies such as World #1 Michellie Jones, reigning
World Champion Nicole Hackett and '99 World Champ. Loretta
Harrop, and there's Emma Carney thrown in for some feeling!
(Olympic selection rivalry! ;)
In the Mens - Miles Stewart,
Brad Bevan and all the other top Aussie boys will try to
make amends if there is any disappointment from the 2000
Olympic campagin.
Favourites?
As bias as this may sound,
Nicole Hackett along with Michellie Jones would have to be
considered as one of the Favourites for this years'
title.
Winning it 2 times in a row
(1999,2000) the question on everybodies lips would be can
Nicole Hackett equal Jackie Gallagher's F1 record and make
in 3 in a row?.
Results will be posted
above this preview when they become avaliable
