-----
Jason Matthews:
Nikki Hackett, How are you?
Nicole Hackett: Not too bad, thankyou.
Jason Matthews: You're in Geelong this weekend
Nicole Hackett: Yes I am, I've got a World Cup race this
weekend
Jason Matthews: Tell us what's happening there. This is the
only one in Australia?
Nicole Hackett: Yeah, there's 12 races around the world,
This is the only one we have in Australia
Jason Matthews: Why did we pick Geelong?
Nicole Hackett: Umm... I think it's because of the
Commonwealth Games being here in 2006...?.
Jason Matthews: Yes
David Fairleigh: So four year's down the track...
Jason Matthews: Victorians mate, it take's 'em that long to
get things organised down there
Nicole Hackett: Yeah, it does [laughs]
Jason Matthews: So you're down there in sunny Geelong
Nicole Hackett: Yeah, pity it's raining
Jason Matthews: Ohh, what a shocker
Jason Matthews: So you're competing all this weekend?
Nicole Hackett: On Sunday at 11 o'clock for a couple of
hours ... that's about it
David Fairleigh: So the World Cup Series, Nikki, that
obviously boosts your world ranking
Nicole Hackett: Yeah ... it's part of the world ranking
system, that's where you get your world ranking from, but
you've got to do about six of the races to get a decent
ranking from it and I only ever do about ... three, four
maximum, so my ranking's never as high as what the other
girls are.
David Fairleigh: So what is your world ranking at the
moment?
Nicole Hackett: Umm ... I think I'm ranked number seven in
the world.
Jason Matthews: I think the obvious question here is why do
you only race three or four? Why don't you do the 12 or do
more so you can increase your world ranking and attract more
sponsorship?
Nicole Hackett: Umm... I kind of pick and choose the races
that I want to do well in and kinda keep that for the big
races ... I don't race well week in- week out so I've kinda
just gotta work out when I can have a break and when I've
gotta just get into it and train hard.
David Fairleigh: So where will you compete this year
Nikki?
Nicole Hackett: Well, obviously the first one's here in
Australia then I go to Japan, there's two over in Japan, I
think there's one in the States...
David Fairleigh: Your off to the Commonwealth Games in
August - How do you see your chances there, Nikki?
Nicole Hackett: Yeah, hopefully pretty well, the competition
won't be as tough, I don't think, as what the World Cup
races are because not all the countries race there and most
of our competiton comes from the States and they don't
compete at the Commonwealth Games.
Jason Matthews: So it's a bit of a prestige thing
Nicole Hackett: Yeah, more of a prestige thing which is
good, I can't wait to head over there and have a race, I
don't know what it's like over there but I've heard it's wet
and miserable most of the time
David Fairleigh: August wouldn't be too bad actually
Jason Matthews: How long did you spend there?
David Fairleigh: I was there for a year
David Fairleigh: But August will be ok, you'll probably, you
might have one or two days of sunshine in two weeks
[all laugh]
Nicole Hackett: Well hopefully it will be a sunny day that
we race!
Jason Matthews: How cold would the water be?
Nicole Hackett: Well they're saying it's only going to be 18
degrees
David Fairleigh: I think you're going to be swimming in that
Manchester shipping canal because that's about the only
water I can think of in Manchester ... so ... Goodluck!
Jason Matthews: Do you still wanna go!?
Nicole Hackett: [laughing] Yeah I do actually! ... I've swum
in worse stuff!
Jason Matthews: Oh I suppose you would! Alright mate, well
listen Goodluck tommorrow
Nicole Hackett: Thankyou
