NEPTUNE...also known as Poseidon, the Greek God of the sea, controlled all the water of the earth. He was the son of Titan and Rhea, and the brother of Zeus. Sailors and people who raced horses especially worshiped him, for it was Neptune who created horses and was proud of their many uses. Hundreds of sea and land creatures were his offspring, including some of human form. One of his most beautiful  was the untamed, winged horse Pegasus and he alone could direct Pegasus to do his bidding.  Neptune protected all his creations whether human or animal and it was only the foolish who sparked his anger. He can control the clouds and wind, raise or quiet waves and allow safe passage through his world if he chose. Living deep within the ocean, his home is a sparkling cave lined with gemstones, where he is often seen carrying a three pronged spear called a trident.

He rides the ocean on a chariot that was made from a huge shell, drawn through the water by a team of gleaming white horses with his son Triton riding beside him.

Proteus... Old man of the sea. A seer who knows all that has been, is now, and lies in store, though reluctant to answer questions. By his art he changed his real figure for a false semblance, but soon returned to his true form. Son of Poseidon.

Triton... Hybrid sea creature. Son of Poseidon & Amphitrite. His body, from the crown of his head, round his back and waist as far as the belly, was wondrously like that of the gods; but below his sides the tail of a sea-monster lengthened far, forking to this side and that. He is able to smote the surface of the waves with the spines, which below parted into curving fins, like the horns of the new moon.

He assisted the ARGONAUTS and on another occasion blew his shell-trumpet, which he had invented, against the GIANTS putting them to flight. When Athena was born she was brought up by Triton.

Nereid... In ancient times there was a man known as the Old Man of the Sea. That sea was the Mediterranean. This "Old Man" was called Nereus. He was known to have great wisdom, and was kind, just and true. But, he was remembered largely because of his daughters, that he and his wife, Doris, gave to the world. These daughters were called Nereids after their father, and all were exceptional in their charm, grace and beauty. As they came of age, each was given a body of water over which they were to preside and which they endowed with their own unique personalities, moods and other qualities. Each, Nereid, had a story, some became famous, and a few achieved immortality.

Glausus... Had been a mortal fisherman, but after chewing a plant became a sea-deity, and later fell in love with Scylla 1. Son of Nereus & Doris 1.

Palaemon... The name of Melicertes after being deified.
