Amphitrite... was one of the Nereids. When she found out she was to marry Poseidon, she ran to the Atlas Mountains and hid. Poseidon sent his messenger, Delphinus the dolphin, to talk her into coming back to him. She eventually agreed, and she and Poseidon married. Afterwards became known as a sea goddess, and the couple had three children: Triton, Rhode, and Benthesicyme
Eurynome... was the daughter of Ocean and Tethys. She was loved by Zeus, and together they were said to have been the parents of the Graces. In one of the creation myths, she was known as the Mother of All Things. She rose naked from the sea and rubbing the North Wind between her hands, she created her consort, Ophion. She became preganant with the Universal Egg, which created everything. She and Ophion lived on Mount Olympus, and she knocked his teeth out when he took credit for everything on the Earth.
Peneloe...who was originally named Arnaea, was the daughter of Icarius and the nymph, Peribaea. She was thrown into the sea as a child, and was rescued by some ducks. This is how she got the name Penelope, which means "with a web over her face." She married Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and patiently waited twenty years for his return home from the Trojan War.
While he was gone, she was courted by one hundred twelve suitors, all of whom she refused. But the suitors made themselves at home in Odysseus' palace, and refused to leave until she chose one of them.
She began weaving a shroud for her late father-in-law, Laertes, and told the suitors that as soon as it was done, she would choose. For three long years, she weaved by day and unraveled it at night. She was caught only after one of her servants snitched. This was about the same time that Odysseus returned in disguise. He assured her, dressed as a beggar, that her husband would be home soon.
The next day, she told the suitors that she would marry the one who could bend Odysseus' bow, string it, and shoot and arrow through the rings of twelve ax handles. None of them could do it, until Odysseus stepped forward and completed the task.
He killed all the suitors and reunited with Penelope. But not for long. Odysseus was exiled for ten years for the murders of the suitors, during which time Telemachus, their son, ruled as king. He, too, was banished because of a oracle that said Odysseus would be killed by his son. So Penelope ruled as Queen until Odysseus returned. he was then killed by Telegonus, his son with Circe. Telegonus was exiled for a year, then returned and married Penelope. Telemachus married Circe.
