Elisha Cuthbert
Not
yet 19 years old, Elisha Cuthbert has been featured in Elle Canada,
hosted a popular teenage TV show, played both Kiefer Sutherland's
daughter and a thieving liar with an insatiable gambling addiction. It's
safe to say this 18-year-old, Alberta-born actress is on a roll.
Cuthbert is best known for her portrayal of Katlin in Lucky Girl,
the recent television movie about a high school senior whose life
spirals out of control when she gets sucked into the abyss of
high-stakes gambling. Cuthbert says she hopes her role in the film
helped shed some light on this increasingly serious issue.
"Lucky Girl was a learning experience because I think this is an
issue in Canada and we really have to realize that and address it,"
says Cuthbert. "Hopefully this film will make people more aware of
it."
Before getting her lucky break in Lucky Girl, then 15-year-old Cuthbert
was the sewer-exploring host of the Montreal-based television series Popular
Mechanics for Kids. The show received praise from parents and
educators and prompted an invitation to the White House from then U.S.
First Lady Hillary Clinton. Cuthbert was acknowledged as an outstanding
presenter of educational programming. It was an experience she both
loved and feared.
"It was incredible," says Cuthbert. "It was really scary
too though, because anyone that has that much power is kind of
intimidating. I just remember waiting in the Washington Room and there
were maps everywhere and we were just waiting in there and she came in
and it was so nice because she was very relaxed. She's such a nice lady.
It was cool."
Three months after moving to Los Angeles this year, the determined young
actress landed the role of Kiefer Sutherland's rebellious daughter in
the TV pilot 24. Cuthbert now realizes the rewards gained from
working nonstop in High School, and missing out on a lot of her teenage
years.
Quote:
"It was hard," Cuthbert recalls. "I remember failing a
couple of things, but I always ended up catching up, so it kind of
balanced itself out. And I don't think I would have wanted it any other
way. I kind of liked working and going to school at the same time."
