Weekend Update

Well, first the big news. Saturday was regionals for speech at DeKalb. We had to drive an hour and a half to get there, which meant that we had to be on the bus at 6:00. Ugh. The day there was pretty boring. There were only two regular rounds, and the people with only six or seven people in their even only had one. The rounds were staggered, so I had to wait until 9:45 to go, and as soon as we got out, it was time for my next round! The judge was late in our second round because she had to judge DI (dramatic interpretation). Finally, it was all over and done with, and I was ready to change into my pajamas, when it transpires that I got into final rounds. My happiness was bounded by the fact that I would have to wait until after final rounds to change. Switch to awards. I got third, qualifying me for sectionals. WAHOO! :oD That was the first time I’ve won an award! So I’m going to sectionals this week, and I’m quite excited. The competition is much tougher than last week, but the fact that I made it there is amazing enough.
This week is packed. I have much to do, and no time to do it in. That’s why I’m updating now. Our Speech teacher is sick, and of course that means that we can’t give our presentations, so the sub let us go to the library. :o)
Thank goodness for small miracles.
I’m drawing a speech recruitment poster like the Uncle Sam one, except with the Chairman. It’s the standard “Chairman Moo wants YOU for speech team.” I’ll scan it up when I get the chance.

I saw the name Chairman Moo in an actual newspaper article! It's amaing!
This is the third day Mr. Bart, out speech teacher, is not here. I now present on Thursday of next week, which is a very good thing, considering how busy I was this week.

Friday I felt pretty bad. I had a sore throat, and three tests. It was not pleasant. Saturday was sectionals. There was no chance in the world I would make final rounds in the condition I was in. I was sick, cold, and awake at 6 in the morning. None of us made it to finals (the competition was tough, to put it mildly), and we were blessed enough to get home while the sun was still shining. I got home, called my parents, and they took me to Deer Park. Now, when you've just come back from competition, and you're not feeling so well, the last place you want to be is in am outdoor mall. However, the Airharts were staying for the weekend, and it was shopping day. I got a book out of it but Adith and Tara go new shoes while I was gone. I was feeling left out. We came home, adn the adults went out for dinner. It was all that I could do not to pass out on the couch. Today I slept all afternoon. It looks like I'll be well enough to go to school tomorrow. Drat! :o( Why can't I ever be sick during a school day?

2/13/02
Well, I did miss a school day. I came downstairs on monday, all ready to get on the bus, and I had to sit on teh couch because coming down the stairs wore me out. I obviously couldn't elbow my way through school in that state. :o)
Yesterday I went to Tara's choral concert. It was actually fun. They did a coffeehouse format, and Tara got to do a solo. She actually is good! I was surprised, considering the lack of singing talent in our family. She was supposed to go sometime in the middle, but the tape that was to accompany her was in someone's kareoke machine, so the mom had to rush there an back, and Tara went near the end.
Just when I thought it was over... It strikes again! No, I'm not talking about the postman who took over the world, but the 7 am bus thing. I thought I'd finally get a decent friday night in, and sleep till noon. No such luck. Turns out there's a schol. bowl tourney. UGH!

2/14/02
We lost to Fremd in schol. bowl, but the real fun came after it was over. Matt sneaked a roll of oreos into his 'thrift bag' to eat on the bus. So, knowing how screwy our team is, we have all ID'd the diseases we have. We offficially have a klepto, a pyro, a schitzo(sp?), and a Jeffersonian.
Adithya left for Barbados this morning, with appa. I miss him.

2/17/02
Saturday was the tournament. We went 4-1. It was tiring, and I didn't do anything the rest of the day, thought it wasn't from want of trying
Today we emptied the safe and sorted throught all the jewelry. Pati wanted to know if amma had a ruby bangle with her, so we had to look for it. We didn't find it, but we did find lots of other neat things. Amma kept some of the plain gold earings and small necklaces out so we could wear them occasionally. Now all I need is some place to go.
I and reading a complete and unabridged version of Tom Jones, and Cat's Cradle(recommended). I also got nine videos from the library, including such heavy fare as Metropolis, a silent, and (I think) the first sci-fi movie. I'll write up a review as soon as I see it.
I need to get a preasent for JoAnne now, only everyone is too lazy to move... I'm at an impasse.
Excuse my ramblings, please. I'm getting talkative in my old age.

2/22/02
My cousin is in town, and we're having dinner with him. I will not be there because I have a party to attend. The one time I actually have a social life, everything happens! Oy vey! p>2/28/02
I've been busy, so what else is new? I'm always busy. Anyway, in the last ten minutes of lunch JoAnne and I went up to the english office to put up the signs on our speechie bulletin board. The bell rang, and we were panicing because there was no way either of us could get to class from there on time. Finally we catch Mrs.b in the hallway and coerce her into letting us finish putting stuff up on the board. we spent half a period there. :o) It was fun AND I got to miss half of health. RTalk about a break!
Speaking of breaks, this weekend is going to be packed. we have tomorrow off, so I can do my homework in the morning, and then from 12 till 2 I'm working at the library. At 3, JoAnne is coming over so we can work on our history project and get all our speech pictures in the album. At 7:30 we're going to see the school musical "Cinderella" (the Rodgers and Hammerstein version. I don't like it. It's sappy, but a lot of people we know are in it. Anyway, I get free tickets.). She's sleeping over, and on Saturday we're going back to school to work from 10 to 2 at the debate tournamet our team is holding. Then I have to go to the art store to get supplies for my presentation in speech class. Sunday I'm up at 9 to help set up the Color Guard competition, and then I'm staying to watch it. OYVEY!
