So posterity may witness the making of the universe's greatest person

3/2/03

I've just finished replying to all my mail, and it feels good to finally get it done. I ehard from my mother, who is in Thailand at the moment. *sigh* I miss my parents horribly, but they're having fun, and I'm glad.
I'm rereading The Scarlet Pimpernel at the moment, and boy is it melodramatic! It reminds me of Dracula, which I started reading, but lost... that tends to happem much too often. Anyway, I stepping on the Friday Five bandwagon, beginning next friday (I forgot this Friday), thanks to Amanda. Of course, all of my answers are not going to be quite a straigtforward as hers are *evil grin*

    Well, here it is!

1. What was the last song you heard?

Well, I'm listening to Chattanooga Choo Choo at the moment. Before that we were listening to Mini's mix (A Little Less Convesation, That song about dipping, Too Much Booty in the Pants, and a Korean song which is quite catchy and a little angst driven (in that cute, J-pop sort of way).) Now we've progressed to Pennsylvania 6-5000, my favorite swing song. *dances*

2. What were the last two movies you saw?

Ten Things I Hate About You and something about swing dancing. The first movie was surprisingly painless, and even enjoyable, for a chick flick. I'm not a big fan of the genre. I think what saved it was the lack of seriously mushy moments (example: He kisses her in the moonlight, on a hill, while they are swinging next to each other, and she promptly throws up at his feet). The swing video was... um... yeah. That about sums it up. It was done in one take in this dinky studio, and the instructor had horrendous taste in fashion and was also quite annoying. There were lots of suggestive scenes (at least to our dirty minds). Our dance teacher won it at some point, which is why she has it in the first place.

3. What were the last three things you purchased?

Umm... I have no idea. I think they would be tickets for out high school's production of Les Miserables (excuse my lack of accents, please). Apparently, it's phemoenal, and I can't wait to see it. I read the book this year, as did my other half, and now we're quite absorbed into the world of Les Mis fanatics.

4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?

Swing, Swing, and Swing some more. I'm not even a part of the actual swing dancing group, yet I'm finding costumes, picking music, and helping with the choreography. I'm having fun though, especially the part where we danced in a swinging manner to Too Much Booty in the Pants.

5. Who are the last five people you talked to?

In this order: Jo (she's sitting right next to me), Alana (who just called for Jo), Appa (I was told to call him and tell him to calll my mother), Amma (who called to tell me to call appa and tell him to call her), and Chewbacca (who didn't call or anything, but he's a very good listener). Jo just told me that Chewy doesn't count as a person. I disagree.

I jsut got back from paying in the snow with Tara. We're blessed with a hill in the front of our house, so we can actually go sledding (this was never a problem in Pittsburgh, but let's not start on that. I'm homesick as it is.). The weather was actually warm and sunny (comparatively) and we came in only when it started snowing again. We're hopping it'll snow enough to obliterate our sled tracks so we have a fresh hill to work with tomorrow.
I just spent the last hour cheering someone up, and enjoyed it. In the course of that, I rediscovered one of my favorite sites from way back when. Now I'm going up to call people and eat. Bye!

It's Pi day! yes, today is 3-14, making it the official pi day. So, in in honor of the occasion, I have a wonderful joke for you:

What do you get if you take the diameter of a plate with ice cream on it and divide it by the circumference?
    Pi a la mode!

Now, time for some friday fiveness

1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?
I LOVE talking on the phone, especially to people who I don't see often, but I prefer actually being in the presence of the person I'm communincating with. It's hard enough to commuicate properly with visual cues, let alone without them.

2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?
Busybee, my great aunt. I also talked to Nivi, my cousin, who told me all about her new fish, Bubbles, and her best friend, her best friend's brother, adn the brother's dog. Pretty good for a kid who was scared to death of me last time I saw her.

3. About how many telephones do you have at home?
4 plus 2 cell phones (and goodness know how many more when my dad's home).

4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?
Um... My brother's various friends, who just kinda grunt, and don't actually say anything. ususally I take a message or they call back... no harm done.

5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?
It depends. If I want a conversation with the person, of course the phone is the best option. However, letters, even emails, have a charm of their own. That's about as definite as I can be on the subject.

It's such a beautiful day! This morning, the smell was in the air. Each season has it's own special perfume, and spring was here, mingled with early summer. I couldn't contain my joy!
&nbps Happy St. Patrick's day, by the by. Today is dedicated to my very good friend, Pat, patron saint of TI-89's and all those named Pat. :D

3/25/03
Ok, so I've been a little late with the Friday Five, but I'm enjoying my spring break! Anyway, better late than never.

1. If you had the chance to meet someone you've never met, from the past or present, who would it be?
Hmm... perhaps Eleanore of Aquataine? I don't know, really. I'd love to meet some really first-rate commedians, like those that worked on tv in the '50's, I'd LOVE to hear Ella Fitzgerald sing. Tenesha says she wants to meet Madam C J Walker or MLK (But Jo's already met him :D) .

2. If you had to live in a different century, past or future, which would it be?
If I was a man and white, I'd say Renaissance Europe. If I was just a man, I'd like to be in India about 1000 years ago, and be a holy man. Truly, being a woman is great, but it's also a great handicap when you're talking about the past.
Tenesha wants to see the yeasr 3000, to find out whether or not we end up like the Jetsons...lol! I'm curious about that myself.

3. If you had to move anywhere else on Earth, where would it be?
Some deserted tropical island in the South Pacific, complete with all the luxuries of modern life and lots of art supplies and books to keep me happy. Or perhaps some very scholarly place like Oxford. I'd love to be a dreamy professor... Of course, there's always France, in the country, where I could milk cows and eat great food all the time.
Tenesha's going to live in Tenessee (of course). She's building her mom's house down there, and she has lost of family there, so it only makes sense.

4. If you had to be a fictional character, who would it be?
I'd like to be Alex form Hoka! Hoka! Hoka!, because it's one of those amazing little worlds of sci-fi that's plain fun to be in. I'd like to be Dr.Dolittle even more. Talking to animals, curing their ills, you just can't get better than that!
Tenesha: Pheobe from Charmed. "I can relate to her, and she's a scorpio also. The show's set in San Fran, and they're all sister and witches, and it's all just so cool."

5. If you had to live with having someone else's face as your own for the rest of your life, whose would it be?
Tenesha: "Oh my gosh... (long pause. I think she's asleep. wait, she woke up!) Uh...I don't know. Jo says she wants her face, but Tenesha's not having any of it.
I'm a little stubborn and vain when it comes to that. I like my face. It certainly isn't beautiful, but it lets me know who can see beyond that. I think I'd like Tenesha's face, so I could parade about as her and wreak havoc *evil laugh*.

Mmm... a nice steaming cup of friday fiveness

1. What was your most memorable moment from the last week?
That's tough...The Redwoods? The Cartoon Museum? Downtown Benicia? ....Yes, definitely Downtown Benecia, a town so hopping, it makes Barrington look like New York. A town where all the shops close at seven (or sometimes before), and pedestrians are given the right of way, no matter what.

2. What one person touched your life this week?
Thomas, who jumped on me and make me chase him around the house. :D I enjoyed it enormously. 3. How have you helped someone this week? Um... No? I loaded dishes and put away food. That's about the extent of my good-deed doing.

4. What one thing do you need to get done by this time next week?
Essays galore *Jumps for joy*. I've got a rewrite and a NHS paper to write, although the NHS paper is really due Tuesday.

5. What one thing will you do over the next seven days to make your world a better place?
Wow, I hadn't thought of doing anything to make the world a better place. I'm quite selfish like that. I don't know. I'll have to do something when the opportunity arises, I guess.
