The village of Meare lies 3½ miles west of Glastonbury between the Polden Hills and the Mendips. Together with its hamlets of Godney and Westhay, it lies on highpoints in an otherwise very flat and low lying landscape.

One of the most interesting features of Meare is the Abbots Fish House, built in the 14th century and believed to have been used to store fish from the extensive lake surrounding Meare at that time. It also has an upper floor serving as living quarters.
