Action/Adventure games make up the bulk of snes games. They include most side-scroller shoot-em-up games as well as some borderline rpg games.

Role Playing Games are games in which you are given control of one or more characters and follow them through a storyline. RPGs usually involve combat, drama, and allow you to improve your characters over time.
