Press Release (July 2002)

Long Weekend is back!

After a six month hiatus, Long Weekend is back in association with Sunday Service. Escape the festival to the refurbished basement bar of Mr Magoo's resounding with quality house from Alan Paul, Grant MacDonald, David Myers and friends... With a whole host of DJ's every Sunday from 6pm onwards - extend your weekend with Long Weekend...

Long Weekend started downstairs at Oxygen in March 2001 by Tracy Griffen and Peter Holman who wanted something to do on Sunday afternoons. Always underground, it attracted a plentitude of DJ's and clubbers who were attracted to the funky sounds and D.I.Y. attitude. By June, Long Weekend was homeless due to noise complaints, and so after a couple months break, we moved to upstairs of the Venue. The over the top 'blue skies' decor and plethora of DJ talent ensured its continued success. By January 2002 Long Weekend left the Venue (with many of the other smaller 'non profit making' clubs who were 'asked to leave' by the new management the time). And now...

After a six month hiatus, Long Weekend is back in a fab new venue. Long Weekend will combine with the talent of Sunday Service (DJ's Alan Paul and Grant MacDonald) to create something totally different for Sunday evenings in Edinburgh. Music will be deep and funky house (or thereabouts) courtesy of Alan, Grant, David Myers, Long Weekend resident DJ's and loads of guests. Entry is free, CD's will be given away at the door and hopefully there will be drink specials as well! The Long Weekend decor will be transported to the stylishly refurbished basement bar of what used to be grotty Christie's. The capacity is only about 50 people, so punters will do well to arrive early for the party atmosphere.

Long Weekend is back after a summer holiday…

After a two-month break, Long Weekend, Edinburgh’s only Sunday afternoon club is back in a bigger venue.

Now taking place every month, Long Weekend will be larger and louder in every respect! We’ll be maintaining the popular ‘blue skies’ décor, extending the afternoon by an hour to 9pm and bringing back the Long Weekend DJ’s. Long Weekend operates in a unique way in that the eight DJ’s work together to create an atmosphere far removed from a normal Sunday afternoon.

Press Release (March 2001)

Who says you can’t dance on Sunday? Grocery shopping... Laundry... That important meeting on Monday morning.
FORGET IT! It’s still the weekend, so Let’s Dance!

Burn up extraneous energy in the illustrious basement bar of Oxygen. It’s a chemical thing: Oxygen burns.

Long Weekend is Edinburgh’s first Sunday afternoon club for the new millennium. From midday to 6pm every Sunday you can forget the mundane aspects of life and burn off some calories. £2 gets you a fruit salad of DJ’s at a decent decibel level.

Peter Holman and Tracy Griffen, the club’s promoters, have partied in all corners of the globe (OK, so the earth is round, but we think it’s a bit square). We’ve wondered why the Scottish clubbing weekend terminates at 3am on Sundays. There’s still 30 hours until 9am Monday... Why not make the most of it?

The DJs are hand-picked and offer a variety of genres. But whether they are bedroom disc spinners or established DJs, the common theme is danceability. And where else can you dance for six hours and still get to your family dinner?

Caffeine and sustenance can be purchased from upstairs at Oxygen bar. Tracy and Peter are running Long Weekend on a non-profit basis All we want is to offer a breath of fresh air to the Edinburgh club scene

Extend your weekend at Long Weekend. Every Sunday 6pm - 1 am
downstairs at Mr Magoo's, Lawnmarket (just up from Grassmarket)
