BIO
In
the summer of 2000 the carefree and relaxing days brought three young
musicians together with a drive to play music. Already great friends
and enjoying times in the sun before their junior year of high school,
Neal Spencer, Dan
Larkum, and Miguel Silva found
themselves in a cool basement producing the uplifting vibrations of reggae
music that they loved so much. With
Spencer, a master of the drum kit, Larkum a natural on the bass, and Silva
strumming the six strings of a cheap guitar and singing vocals into a
weak PA system, Restrung was born. The
trio later was looking to add some warm harmonies to their sound and asked
classmate Brian Kelly to join the lineup. Kelly's familiarity with
the guitar also allowed the group to incorporate more dense and intricate
rhythmic strumming patterns as his and Silva's playing matched well.
The
band worked for months, compiling a number of original tracks, and in
December they recorded their first 7 song EP, A
Separate Piece, at Paranoise Record
Studio, in Hartford, Connecticut. Over time, they began to uncover
elements in their playing that soon created the style that is Restrung.
Silva started writing deeply felt political lyrics and a whole
new set of tracks was written over the next year. The band's sound
tightened with experience and in the summer of 2002 they recorded their
first full-length 10 song LP, UNIDAD
in New Haven, Connecticut at BarNone Studio. Weeks before the release
of the debut album, Brian Kelly left the band, however Restrung continued
to play and offer their message to their loyal fans. In the fall
Silva went to school in Maine while Spencer and Larkum continued school
in the Hartford area. Close contact has been maintained and the
trio plans to regroup in the upcoming summer to write new music and continue
playing for the people.
