Old Trafford has been the home of Manchester United since 1910. Since then the great stadium has left many great memories. Here are some pictures that show how Old Trafford has improved over the years

Old Trafford when it was first built in 1910. The first ever game at Old Trafford came against Liverpool. United may of lost it 4-3 but the privilege went to Sandy Turnbull who scored the first ever goal at this great stadium. That day back in 1910 it is reported that a massive 50,000 people attended the game.

On Tuesday 11th March 1941, Old Trafford was bombed by enemy bombs, due to World War II. Rebuilding had to start straight away, and as United couldn't play at Old Trafford so they had to play at Manchester City's Maine Road. Below shows pictures of the drastic rebuilding of Old Trafford, and the damage it caused.

Since Old Trafford was built it has hosted the FA Cup final replay (1911), and in 1966 the World Cup finals, more recentley being the European Championships (1996). But the ground has never reached its capacity which its designer hoped for, 100,000. At the moment its capacity is 55,000 and the ground is full every league game.

The capacity was only increased in 1996 to 55,000 from the previous capacity of 45,000. This is how the ground looked before the new stand was added to increase the capacity.

From the 45,000 capacity being full each week and the demand for match and season tickets so high, United decided on increasing the capacity by building a new £27 million stand.

As you can see the new stand is very impressive with a massive four tiers, which accommodate nearly 20,000 fans.

Whether United will increase there capacity even more is being spoke of at the moment, they are going to increase the capacity by an extra 12,000. Making Old Trafford having a total capacity of 68,000.
