Literacy Groups

Our morning literacy groups are a key part of literacy instruction.  Children not only get small group time to meet their individual needs but also have opportunities to work independently and with peers.

The children rotate to four groups each morning.

Mrs. Manship's Group

• poetry

• writing and revising

• interactive writing

• guided reading

• reading comprehension

• phonemic games

• sight word activities                                 

Mrs. Crawley's Group

• sight word games and tactile learning

• phonemic activities

• personal alphabet books

• making words

• sharing

Journals/Writing

• Children write and draw in journals at their own level.

• Poetry fill in and illustration

• Write about child of the week

Literacy Tubs/Centers

Many tubs are available.  See the link above for a complete list of ideas.  Children can work alone or with a partner on the activities in a tub.  Each week I try to include tubs with the following kinds of activities:
