Predecodables

These books with pictures and sight words give children a feeling of accomplishment, since they are able to read them very early in the year.  Even as the children progress to other books, they often go back to these books many.

Please know that the predecodables are a part and not the whole of our reading program.  Every week the children have many opportunities to work with different kinds of text.  Specifically, the children are given reading materials at their specific level each week in small group during guided reading.

After we have read the predecodables several times in class, we send the books home for the children to keep and read.

Reading the predecodables is part of the weekly homework schedule.
