Chapter One

"Hey Megs, wuzzup?!" I typed into the instant messenger.

"Hey Candy, what’s goin on?" My cousin, the only friend I had, replied.

"Nothin. Just bored as usual."

"You need to find some truthful friends. One that wont turn on you."

"I’ve told you Megs, everyone is like Jacob. I find someone I trust then when I move to get away, it hurts to leave them. I’ve realized it is easier to keep people out of my mind and not have any feelings for anyone. You and Mom are the only people that mean something in my life." I told her once again.

"Candy, I mean come on, there has to be someone out there that wont do that to you. Someone nice and caring. You have taken this so harshly that you don’t even have a favorite band or a big celebrity crush. You are always on the Internet pretending to be someone you aren’t."

"No one can stop me from being someone I’m not."

"Tell ya what. I’ll come down there on Thursday. I have been saving some money to fly down there. I’ll help you find someone you can trust."

"Thursday is in two days. How are you going to get a flight on such late notice?"

"I got a new boyfriend who’s owns a jet. Cool, huh?!"

"Yeah, well I gotta go, k?"

"Okay, bye."

I shook my head as I signed off. Megs always looked for a rich guy that has a possession that shows it. I went downstairs to tell my mom that Megs was coming.

"Ow." I heard as I walked into the living room to see my mom sprawled out on the ground.

"Mom, don’t force it." I told her.

"The doctor said 5-10 years. It has been 5 years since I got that, that thing." She said pointing to her wheelchair.

"Actually, It has been 5 years, 3 months, and 1 week since the accident. You know that 5-10 means 5-10. You might have to wait another 4 years till you can walk again." I said.

"Yeah, I know. I just don’t want to think it."

"Anyway, Megs says she can come visit us on Thursday, is that cool?"

"Yeah. It might help you, won’t it?"

"Yeah, whatever."

I helped her into her chair. My Chocolate Labrador came in the door and circled my feet. "Hey Rosie." I said and went back upstairs as Rosie followed. I sat down in front of my computer and signed back online. Megs had gotten off so I went into a chat room and talked to some people, then signed back off.

~*~ two days later ~*~

"Candy, it’s almost time." Mom yelled at me.

"Coming!" I yelled back to her. I went downstairs.

"Okay. Megan says she will be at gate 2B. Here’s ten dollars for gas." She said handing me two fives.

"Thanks Mom." I said. I walked outside and got into my Grand Prix and drove to the airport.

When I got there I went through the security and kept getting beeped at because of my boots. When the police guys realized I had no weapons, they let me go. I walked down to gate 2B and sat down at a seat by the window. I had developed a skill to listen to other people’s conversations. I knew it was rude, but it passed the time away. I glanced at my watch and noticed I was 10 minuets early, just enough time to listen to someone’s conversation. Two guys sat down beside me. "What a coincidence." I thought.

"So Nick," said the guy with brownish blonde hair, at least that’s what I could tell even though he had a hat covering his eyes. "Why are we here?"

"We are picking up AJ. He is coming in from California." The other one said. I knew I had heard someone say AJ before, so I absentmindedly turned around.

"Do I know you?" I asked in my quiet voice.

"That depends." A guy with blue eyes behind blue tinted sunglasses said.

"Maybe you have heard one of our songs?"

"Probably not, If I have I don’t pay attention to the words." I said.

"Well this is very informal." Said the other guy. "I’m Brian and this is Nick." Nick smiled.

"Hi" I said.

"Well, aren’t you going to tell us about yourself? You know, your hobbies, possibly your name?" He said putting his arm around me.

"Well, my name is Candy, I’m 23 I like rollerblading and dancing and I hate guys that hit on me." I said and move over to another seat.

"Candy!!" I heard someone say. I looked over to see Megs.

"Hey." I said and walked over to her and gave her a hug.

"What’s up? You seem mad." She asked me.

"Some guy tried to hit on me just because of my looks."

"Gosh, why do guys do that? They are jerks."

"Yeah. Well, at least this guys friend seemed nice."

"Show me where they are. I will go talk to him."

"Over there." I said pointing at them.

"Oh my gosh. Would these guys happen to have given you their names?" She asked after looking at them.

"Yeah, Brian and Nick. Why?"

"I’m sorry, but those guys aren’t jerks. The are probably the most talented guys you could ever meet. I mean do you know who they are?"

"I don’t know about the Brian guy, but the Nick guy is a jerk."

"No! They are the Backstreet Boys, well part of the Backstreet Boys."

"That’s why they sounded familiar. You always talk about them."

"Yeah, well I don’t think I can talk to them anymore."

"Fine then, I will." I said. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I went up to the Nick guy. "You’re a jerk." I said and started to walk away.

Megs grabbed my arm. "She’s such a kidder!" she laughed.

"I’m not kidding." I said.

Megs continued to laugh. "Hi, I’m Megan, but people call me Megs."

"Hi." Brian said.

"Are you waiting for someone?" Megs asked them.

"Yes," Brian said not wishing to elaborate.

"So Candy, can I have your number?" Nick asked me.

"No." I said. "We better go Megs, mom’s waiting."

Megs rolled her eyes. "Here is my cell and email." She said as she pulled something out of her purse and gave it to Nick. "She’ll be with me."

Nick smiled at us and said good bye. We went through the metal detector and my shoes set it off again. They let me pass when I explained.

"Why did you give Nick our phone number?" I asked my cousin angrily when we got in the car.

"I didn’t. I gave him my cell number and my email. You have nothing to worry about."

I sighed to let off some anger and drove us home.
