One of
my favorite places that we visited while I was in Scotland was Stratford-upon-Avon.
Simply put, a strat is a road in Roman, a ford as we all know is a river
crossing, and the Avon is a river, so therefore, a street crossing the
River Avon.
We spent
two beautiful nights in Stratford-upon-Avon and I had the most fun there
of all of our weekend jaunts.
On Saturday,
while I roamed the streets of Avon and joined structured tours, Jan went
to the races being held about 40 miles down the road. When Jan got back,
he and I rode one of the tour boats on the River Avon.
That is
absolutely breath-taking! On Saturday evening, we had a lovely dinner,
and then we went to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and saw a rendition of
"A Midsummer's Night Dream."
Needless
to say, when I arrived back in Aberdeen the first thing I did was to call
Karron up and rub it in. That is one of her favorite Shakespearean
plays. (Tell me later how mean it was of me to tease Karron!)
I adore
the beautiful views in and around this little town. As much as I
would love to visit there again, I would never in my life live there since
it is nothing more than a tourist trap now!
