"Tonight I Met a True American Soldier"
~ Tribute to LTC Frank McCauley ~
A man of integrity and honor
but a responsibility he must bear.
A heavy weight upon his shoulders,
the soldiers - the fathers, placed in his care.
The years of training behind them -
his troops have proven to be the best.
They will do their job and do it well.
They will stand strong and pass the test.
But tonight his heart is heavy
his burden easy to see.
A single teardrop falling
as a child sits on his knee.
His daughter smiles up at him,
too young his cares to conceive.
Children all around the room
he watches - and in his soul he grieves.
So many young children,
who'll soon be left behind
But as he listens closely
inner peace he finally finds.
The children surely will miss their dads,
that's so easy to believe.
But the families will stick together
and the children are their priority.
So lead our soldiers where they must go,
keep them focused and in line.
But take our promise with you
our children will be fine!

We, the families of the soldiers of the 2/278th ACR, want you to know that although we hate to see our soldiers leave, we are comfortable and very thankful knowing that we have a commander who we can trust. We appreciate your professionalism, your caring attitude, and your dedication to our country and to our soldiers. We feel truly blessed knowing that you are who you are. Go with God and the prayers of those of us who will be waiting at home.

LTC McCauley's message for the group (from his guestbook entry):
- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
~ Joshua 1:9
