"Lord, hold our troops - our husbands, fathers, grandfathers and friends - in your loving hands. Let them feel your surrounding love and care as they take leave from their homes and families. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen."

June 20, 2004 Sunday - Father's Day With pride for our soldiers and all they stand for, but with pain for the separation of families, we watched Troop G as they left today. The community support was awesome to see. I am so proud of this community and the huge turn-out - with flags and banners flying - to see our soldiers off. God will surely bless our soldiers as well as the families they leave behind. The community stands ready to support these families and for that, we are so very proud!! Click here to see the pictues I have received thus far. I have more to develop but these are from some wonderful friends who spent at least 2 days making posters and encouraging people to turn out for the early morning event. Thank you Amy, Sarah, Joshua and Little Danny!!
June 20, 2004 Sunday - Father's Day - Go with God and the thoughts of those who will continuously be praying for your safe return. We send our love and our hearts with you as you go - be safe.
June 20, 2004 - Greene County Mayor Roger Jones and Greeneville Mayor Darrell Bryan are asking local residents to show support for the departing members of Greeneville-based Troop G of the Tennessee Army National Guard on Sunday morning.
During a Tuesday morning interview, Mayor Jones said he and Mayor Bryan want as many Greeneville and Greene County residents as possible to line the sides of the West Andrew Johnson Highway between Hal Henard Road and Interstate 81’s exit 23 for the 9:30 a.m. Sunday departure of the local citizen-soldiers.
"We need to show that Greene County pride for these folks who are going to put their lives on the line for us,” Jones said. “You may be a little late for Sunday school, but I think the good Lord will approve of it."
Jones said he feels it is important that local residents show their support for the Troop G soldiers as they leave Greene County. They are expected, eventually, to be assigned to duty in Iraq.
Mayor Jones said about 60 members of Troop G of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment’s 2nd Squadron are scheduled to depart to National Guard Armory on Hal Henard Road by bus about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday en route to Camp Shelby, Miss., where the unit will undergo training for the next several months.
Capt. Wiley Hammer, Troop G’s commanding officer, said last week that in late August or early September, the 278th Armored Cavalry regiment will transfer to Fort Irwin, Calif., for advanced training.
The 278th ACR last deployed as a complete unit during the Korean War.
June 16, 2004 - The Greene County Ministerial Association will hold a prayer ceremony Wednesday morning for members of Greeneville-based Troop G.
The Rev. Larrie Pike, president of the Ministerial Association, said the 7:30 a.m. event will take place at Troop G’s armory on Hal Henard Road.
Bob Ellis of the Gideons International will offer troops copies of the New Testament, Rev. Pike said.
June 13, 2004 - Calvary Baptist Church on Biddle St. in Greeneville will honor 2 of it's members who are soldiers with G Troop - Rick Wood and Don Brown. Also invited are any other unit members and their families who would care to attend. Services begin at 9 am and at noon, lunch will be shared in the church fellowship hall.

"A thoughtful mind, when it sees a Nation's flag, sees not the flag only, but the Nation itself;
and whatever may be its symbols, its insignia, he reads chiefly in the flag the Government, the principles, the truths, the history which belongs to the Nation that sets it forth."
--Henry Ward Beecher
