The white shark has long been a focus for negative media attention, generated by its sometimes lethal interactions with humans and boats. As a consequence of this typically exaggerated threat to human safety and an almost legendary 'Big Fish' status, the species is deliberately targeted as a source for sport fishing, commercial drumlin trophy-hunting whereby jaws, teeth and even entire specimens are preserved. Although there have been
attacks on humans, a shark attack is extremely rare. Sharks usually only have to be provoked
before they will attack something. Your chances of being attacked by any shark in the ocean
is less likely to happen then getting struck by lightning.
