Salalah is located in the south of Oman, and a trip to drive there (mainly off road) has been planned between Jon Harbour of ME 4x4, myself and some others
Basically several of us have done several off road trips to Oman, however the plan is to drive solely off road from Mintirib at the top of Wahiba Sands to Salalah, which will be a total of approximately 1,500km.
Day 1
Drive from Dubai to Muscat with my colleague Dave, who is coming over from Riyadh for this trip.
Day 2
Dave and myself will be meeting the main group at Mintirib sometime on the Tuesday afternoon, as we will be coming from Muscat. We will then proceed into Wahiba and camp before sunset.
Day 3
We will proceed through Wahiba to Hayy for refueling, and hopefully find a track westwards to the Petrified Forest that I visited last year with friends from Sultan Qaboos University (although we took a route from the west).
The plan is to camp there also.
Day 4
From the Petrified Forest we will drive to the coast, hopefully arriving at Salutiyat or further south near Duqm, and from there driving on the beach to Ras Madrakkah
Here we will camp by the sea
Day 5
From Ras Madrakkah we continue on the coast refueling at Shalim and continuing to Shuwaymiya for another night's camping.
Day 6
From Shuwaymiya we continue through the Marmul Oil Fields to Thumrait and onwards to Salalah arriving to stay in a comfortable bed at the Hilton Hotel for two nights
Day 7
A day of rest
Day 8
Long haul by road from Salalah to Muscat, 1,000 Km, with a hotel room at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat.
Day 9
From Muscat by road back to Dubai
