Due to the speed at which we arrived we then changed plans slightly, but could not find the track that was required to enter the area we wanted. Being a resourceful lot we made our own, (i.e. we continued to head east in a straight line).

At one point we nearly became victims of some nasty soft stuff as we were still on road pressures however we managed through it with no stucks and onto some varied scenery crossing wadis and passing by a couple of wells.

Then the small dunes were now under our wheels, so time to deflate, rehydrate and micturate. Now we had about two hours of daylight left so we could easily find a good camp site before dark.

This done, Dave set up the braai and we pulled a few cool beers from the Engel to satisfy our thirst whilst watching the sunset.

Tonight’s fire was courtesy of three pallets picked up at the last fuel stop plus a few other bits that Dave had found en route, more than enough.

Another fine culinary delight with steak, chicken, salad and baked potatoes with cheese washed down with the contents of various green and blue cans.

The wind increased and it was getting cool, all of us huddled around the fire in fleeces and quilted jackets drinking cold beer! Eventually I succumbed to a desire to be warmer in my sleeping bag and was first to call it a night.
