Days 1 & 2

Bit Chilly for Monty in the morning

With lots of Km to cover we started later than I would have preferred around 0900. Ian & Sheila had left earlier as they were bringing their dogs which required special clearance through customs and immigration. We met up with them at the border and then all five vehicles were together.

Our next stop was just outside Muscat (Seeb) to meet up with Tony who had a case of beer for us, and I passed on a set of recovery points for his Disco that Streaky had given to me.

After lunch just behind SQUH, we carried on and made our first stop at Ghaba Resthouse. There was one room available that the ladies took. Mike and Ian slept in the lobby and I slept outside in my tentcot, which proved best as I was the only person not bothered by mosquitos.

Be does not take any chances with the cool mornings either

The following morning, we had a reasonable breakfast, one of the dogs found something else to eat and was sick in Ian's car. Later further down the road another one of the dogs had thrown up or shit (I can't remember now), and another stop was required to clean the back of the Patrol. In fact I had driven into this petrol station (Qitabit) on fumes having done around 35Km with the red light on due to the high driving speed whilst sitting at the back of the group and increased fuel consumption.

Flat boring drive between Adam and Salalah

Evenutally we reached the turnoff at Dawkaw, Mike removed his front indicators for fear of losing them on the gatch track (corregated road), and off we set for Shisr and the last fuel stop.

Be unloads her Pathfinder to retrieve the bit required to release the spare wheel

About 20 Km down the track Be had a puncture that took some extra time to fix as one of the tools for releasing her spare was under all of her kit in the back of the Pathfinder

Schieser, no fuel at Shisr!

On reaching Shisr we discovered that there was no fuel ..... BUGGA!

After a quick conference we decided to continue to Fasad and make camp. We were all carrying around 5 or 6 20L Jerry Cans of fuel, so the basic plan was to leave two vehicles at our camp and carry on to N19 E52 with three vehicles
