500 Meters in 3 hours

Driving in the dark is something I am not good at, my eyes are not what they used to be, and the surface not exactly smooth or familiar.

Given the amount of dust thrown up it we soon lost the vehicles in front and cautiously carried on following my GPS tracks from earlier that morning.

We soon caught up with the other two vehicles as they were deflating to enter the dunes, but not from where we had exited!

Highlift out to change a wheel after a tyre came off the rim

Driving in unfamiliar dunes at night is not my cup of tea, and we had several problems not least Mike losing a tyre of the rim.

At one point all three of us were stuck, and I managed two self recoveries as well as recovering Mike and Ian before I had to be winched out of a hole.

The Disco well and truely stuck

Shovels were well used that night, however we eventually made it to the camp which was only 500 meters from our original entry point

Ian popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate our achievement (reaching N19E52 or the campsite?)

Round the campfire

We sat around the campfire after eating until about 0200 hrs
