FILE 01: How to install a custom campaign
1. Unzip all of those files, (.M, .MT, .CAM, .TXT) to your Fighters Anthology folder, and that should do it. It's a very easy job.
Most campaigns come with a readme, so you might as well check that out also, it may give you some more background information. Anyway,
all you have to do next is run Fighters Anthology, and click on the Start New Campaign option. The new campaign should appear,
available for your selection.
2. You still unzip everything to your FA folder, but unlike above, you will not be able to run the campaign from Start New Campaign,
you'll have to proceed by clicking on Fly Single Mission, in which you look around for the missions you just unzipped.
3. Just put the .LIB in your FA folder, and then, if the campaign has a .CAM and .TXT file, follow the same steps as step 1. If not,
simply follow step 2.
FILE 02: Making your campaign
Generally, a campaign is made of:
missions (.m), their briefings (.mt)
the campaign file (.cam), and the description (.txt)
Now, when you download a custom campaign from the internet,
you can
1. expect to find either a whole bunch of .Ms, .MTs, 1 .CAM, and 1 .TXT. (If it is a proper campaign. That is, if it proceeds
like the default FA campaigns) Or
2. you'll find a whole bunch of .Ms and .MTs, with no .CAM and no .TXT. Or
3. you'll find them all
conveniently packaged in one .LIB file.
What do you do when they're in format one?
From Juno, slightly edited by Speedy
Initial notes: Making a full campaign is quite the
task. First, find an idea for the storyline; preferably an original one. Make
sure you have enough time to write 40 missions, and test them three or four times (at least).
Also, make sure you are basically trained in HEX editing and unafraid to use a
hex editor.
Now, you have to get the CAM files.
Download them at The FARC.
After unzipping them, use the CAM file that you
think your storyline is closest to. I usually use the Baltic CAM file for
editing.
Copy both the CAM and TXT files to the name of your campaign (ex.
greece.cam). Your next step is to make all the missions. Try to stick
to your storyline and keep up the quality throughout the mission making
process.
After completing all the missions, begin to edit your CAM
file.
The sections of the file are quite easy to comprehend.
Note about the " $ " and " ~ " things. In ATF and NATO, the " $ " was the secret symbol. The campaign missions were therefore named $B02.M and such. In FA (I'm not sure about ATFG) the secret symbol is " ~ ". Keep this in mind when naming your missions if you want them to be secret. Being "secret" makes it so that players must use the Ctrl-Alt-Shift buttons to access them in the "Play Single Mission" menu or in the Pro Mission Creator.
