So, how do we know each other? David and Julia both live in Ottawa in Canada where they have been friends for some time. David and Malin met in Africa in December 2000, and have now done two climbs together. Julia and Malin have never met, though have got to know each other through e-mail. It’s many e-mails crossing the pond between them every day.

Why Aconcagua? David started the Aconcagua discussion. Malin had her heart set on other mountains in the Himalayas, as did Julia. David sent out different suggestions on guides, travel companies which intrigued both Julia and Malin. However the girls were still not quite convinced since it seemed to be a trip with great costs. After more discussion, a new idea was suddenly born; to do this on our own. Doing our own expedition, where we plan everything ourselves and are our own guides. Malin thought an entire night about this new idea, the next morning she did some fast research on the internet, and presented the idea in an e-mail to David and Julia. It didn’t take many hours until Malin had the answers she wanted to hear; We were going! In the late afternoon on the 28 of June 2001, Team SCALE was born.

Name: Malin Andersson

Live: Lund- Sweden

Age: 24

Work: Currently a student at the University of Lund, where she studies Business. She wants to work in under developed countries as a corespondent to business projects. She also works as an instructor coordinator at a gym and a box and spinning instructor.

Hobbies: All sort of outdoor sports (trekking, skiing, MTBing, swimming, climbing) adventures and anything that makes her day be filled with joy. She loves to train, and the latest thing she gets energy from is boxing. Malin also loves to write, extreme travelling, history and everything involving design.

Previous mountain/training experience:Malin has trekked in the French alps, several treks in US Arizona, Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Randonnée winter trek at Mt Kebnekaise in Sweden, summer trek Mt Kebnekaise, competed in MTBing.

Name: Julia Fortey

Live: Ottawa- Canada

Work: Architectural Technologist, Farrow Architects Inc.

Hobbies: Julia enjoys many outdoor activities including climbing, kayaking, scubadiving, hiking, MTBing, canoeing and swimming.

Previous mountain/training experience: Julia enjoys backpacking in the Adirondacks, Vermont, and White Mountain region regularly. She has also hiked through the Canadian rockies. This year, Julia started competing in 24 hour Multi Sport races (extreme combination of different outdoor sports) with her team the Mufferaw Joes.
