Welcome
to Scotland......and welcome to the 'Thompson' website.
As
you can see by the maps on the left we live in Scotland in a small
village called Arncroach. Arncroach sits about 4 miles inland from
Pittenweem (A fishing village on the 'Firth of Forth'). The
village has a population of about 100 with ages ranging from 2 years to
93!!
Even
though we do not have any shops or pubs we pride ourselves for our close
community spirit and we are well known for our 'Concert Parties' we hold
every year around the months of March/April.
Fife
as a county has a great deal to see and visit. To start with there
is St..Andrews which is a town world renowned for its 'Links' golf courses
and also just recently the University has come under the media spotlight
with the news of a 'Royal' student to take up residence. There are
the various small fishing villages littered around the coast offering
picturesque views, good food and friendly folk to talk to. There are many
Scottish National Trust properties to explore throughout Fife and Scotland.
Kellie Castle is a very fine example of the domestic architecture of
Lowland Scotland. The oldest part is believed to date from 1360, but the
building in its present form is mainly 16th-and early 17th-century and was
completed about 1606. There is also Falkland Palace and the Hill of Tarvit.
to visit as well.

The Towns
of Cupar, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes are excellent for shopping, restaurants
and night-life, Glenrothes is now becoming the 'Silicone Valley' of
Scotland. With Edinburgh, the countries capital city, just one hour
away by car well worth a visit. Enjoy a interesting walk around the
famous Castle and hear the cannon firing the 1pm salute. Or there is
the city of Dundee, which is home to the Research Ship 'Discovery' which
took Captain Scott on his voyage to Antarctica in 1901. There
is also the Verdant Works which takes you on a tour of the 'jute' trade
using audio-visual, computer interactive and machinery displays.
As
you travel North you can visit the cities of Aberdeen and Inverness which
have a lot of interesting places to visit. These
range from 'Loch Ness' where if you look long and hard enough you might
get a glimpse of the 'Nessie' monster! There is the Culloden battlefield
and also many different distilleries that produce the famous 'Malt'
whiskies of Scotland.
Heading
East you will reach Fort
William, Ben Nevis, Oban and the Western Isles. Here you will be
amazed by the beauty of the peaks and glens......pure tranquility!
Then
turning South you have the city of Glasgow which is home to the Scottish
Exhibition Center and also the
ship building docks on the River Clyde.
