Music in the Mountains promised to be a mountain music festival worth skipping the drudgery of work for. It wasn't.

Held an hour east of Seattle at Alpental ski resort, the thin crowd was made up of mostly local yokels - artists and summering-over ski bums - with nothing better to do on a late summer day.

The lodge provided bratwurst and beer, served on their spacious deck, while the music audience was sanctioned to crouching amidst the rocks the mountain seasonally sloughs from its peak.

What the festival lacked in sophistication though, it made up for in kitsch. While the name of the band escapes me, it wasn't the hot item touted by the sponsoring radio station, unless rock medleys performed in extreme Elvis garb sizzle. Still, the venue couldn't have been more scenic.
