For
the first time in more than a decade, CBS won the first part of the
season in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. It viewers, it took
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and sometimes Saturdays and Sundays.
Both veteran editions of "CSI" are still going strong, while the latest
show actually slammed the once invincible "Law & Order." "Two &
A Half Men" is looking extremely strong on Mondays, while "NCIS" and
"The Amazing Race" are drawing a younger crowd on Tuesday. Sunday is
also looking strong with the growing "Cold Case."
Reasons
To Sneer
Fridays
fell apart rather suddenly, with ratings down about 20% from last
season. While Saturdays is off in viewers from last season, it is up in
adults, much like the network on a whole this season. Oh, and CBS
really needs to work on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8pm.

Reasons

This
season may just go down as the quickest turnaround of any network ever,
well, except for ABC in the 1999/2000 season. As opposed to that
season,
however, ABC is not relying on one series this time around.
"Housewives" is the smash hit of the season, ranking second in viewers
and adults (taking first in both measures a few weeks), "Lost," on any
other season, would have all the buzz, while "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" really came from nowhere to just about break into the top 10.
Think of it this way- last season at this time, ABC had one series in
the top 20. Now it has 4 in the top 11.
Reasons
To Sneer
Again
with Fridays, what happened? "The Bachelor" lost more than a third of
its viewers, despite a much better lead-in and lead-out, while "My Wife
& Kids" has suddenly starting showing its age on Tuesdays. But
compared to the problems that ABC had at this point last season, and
that it's now in second place after being in 4th, not even those
problems seem that big.

"The
Biggest Loser" came along and gave the network some good numbers on
Tuesday, while later in the night, "Law & Order: SVU" continues to
make up losses from when it originally moved to Tuesday. "The West
Wing" is looking good on Wednesdays, surprizingly, and "Medical
Investigation" looks like a hit on Fridays. "Crossing Jordan" is good,
too.
Reasons
To Sneer
What
did go right? Big hopes were placed on "LAX" and "Joey," and while
"Joey" has been renewed for a full season, it's not a hit and is off
almost half from "Friends." "ER" now ranks as the 6th highest rated
drama on tv, just two seasons after "CSI" first beat it out for top
spot. "Scrubs" is not a hit, still, "Law & Order" is losing alot of
steam, as are "Fear Factor" and "The Apprentice." And as for "Will
&
Grace," it's looks like there will be a series finale in the near
future.

Reasons

Not
a whole lot. "House" looks promising, while "Trading Spouses" continues
to be a solid alternative on Mondays. "The Swan 2" looks mediocre
enough to be renewed, while "Nanny 911" will likely get a second season.
Reasons
To Sneer
Just
about everything. Fox flamed out with reality, everything from "The
Complex" to "My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss." Sundays are a disaster, and
"The OC" is losing alot of audience on Thursdays. "North Shore" should
be shipped out, as should "Quintuplets." "That 70s Show" is bleeding
audience, cementing this as the final season.

It's
returning series performed fairly well. Tuesday night was up some 25%
overall, while "Reba" continued to reach series highs on Friday. "Blue
Collar TV" became the network's second sitcom hit as well.
Reasons
To Sneer
Most
of it's new series were horrible and it showed: "The Mountain" has
drawn just 1.4mil viewers for new episodes of late, dramatically
dragging down its "Charmed" lead-in. On Mondays, "7th Heaven" is
looking towards the end (although ratings are still fairly strong).
Thursdays is still a disaster, and "Smallville" is sliding fast after
peaking two years ago.

Reasons

While
the UPN is still in sixth place overall, ratings are pretty much flat
from last season which is sometimes an accomplishment in and of itself.
"Enterprise" is doing surprizingly well on Fridays, holding most of its
audience, and its Wednesday line-up is rocking.
Reasons
To Sneer
Mondays
and Tuesdays. Where did the viewers go? If the UPN could get these
networks back up and running, the network would start to see real gains
and would give the WB a run for its fifth place money.
