Sunday

Ah, Sundays, the night to relax and watch... Fox's frantic comedy line-up? That's what alot of viewers were doing as the night won the night in adults, though not all time slot were not created equally. "Futurama" (120) simply sucked, but "The Simpsons" (23), "King of the Hill" (69), "Oliver Beene" (68) and "Malcolm in The Middle" (48) were all solid. The real trouble came at 9:30pm where "Andy Richter" (108) nor "The Pitts" (99) could hold much of "Malcolm's generous audience.
Viewers looking for a more stable line-up tuned into NBC, where its 8-11pm dramas held up quite well. "Dateline" (84), "American Dreams" (64), "Boomtown" (58) and "Kingpin" (40) were all first in their slots in some respect or other, but it was "Law & Order: CI" (21) that really took the cake.
CBS, one time Sunday-night-monster, just couldn't hold on. "60 Minutes" (22) continued to slip at 7pm, while "Becker" (43) and "Bram & Alice" (70) were insignificant at 8pm. Though "My Big Fat Greek Life" (31) perked things up later in the season, subsequent episodes failed to live up to the hype. The traditional movie at 9pm looked anything by solid at 9pm falling to a mediocre 52nd place ranking.
ABC was left in the dust for most of the season with the "Disney Movie" (71) and "Alias" (77), which isn't translating hype into numbers. "The Practice" was top 40 for most of the season at 10pm, but after "Dragnet" stepped in, it dragged the slot to 65th, hardly what ABC had been hoping for. The same was true for the WB at 9pm. "Angel" (150) and "High School Reunion" (145) were good, but not spectacular, but things only got worse once "Black Sash" (153) stepped up to the plate. And then there was "Charmed," which reinvented Sundays for the frog with a 137th place finish. Instead of "Gilmore Girls," maybe a spin-off of "Charmed" is really what the doctor ordered.
