- When Xander first sees Buffy, he falls off his skateboard, he's so wrapped up in her. It's almost love at first sight. It's funny, but also very sweet.
- Xander describes Buffy as "pretty much a hottie" when talking to Jesse.
- Buffy drops and spills the contents of her schoolbag. Xander rushes over to help her, and the first words out of his mouth are, "Can I have you?" It seems that when he's around her, he's unable to think straight.

- This episode is the first of many in which Xander feels threatened by Buffy's strength and wants to prove to her that he can be strong and he can be manly. Buffy decides to go down in the tunnels to find Jesse, and tells Xander that he can't go. Xander is hurt and feels useless. So he follows Buffy into the tunnels, even though she forbids it. This shows that it's important to him that Buffy knows he's stronger and more powerful than she thinks.
- This episode is also the first in a series of episodes where Xander manages to save Buffy's life. When they get out of the tunnels, and some vamps grab Buffy's ankle and try to pull her down. It's Xander who pulls her to safety. (And in the process, grabs her butt, but we won't talk about that too much...)

- For cheerleading tryouts, Xander gives Buffy a "good luck bracelet" engraved with the words "Yours, Always." He makes a lame excuse, saying, "It came like that, really, they all said that."
- Xander obsesses over Buffy to Willow, and finally decides to ask her out. He never gets the chance, even though he tries twice.
- Starting in this episode, Xander will become very protective of Buffy, and when he's concerned for her, he won't care about anything else. When Buffy's weakened under the spell that the witch put on her, she says that it's not the witches fault, to which Xander replies, "I don't care about that. I only care that you go on breathing." His feelings for her mean that she takes priority over everything else.

- Xander fantasizes about Buffy in class. His dream paints him as the hero and he saves Buffy's life. Xander wants to impress Buffy and prove to her that he can fight evil too. Also, in his dream, Buffy seems to be in love with him. It looks to me that Xander thinks the only way to steal Buffy's heart is to be Danger Boy.
- Xander is way jealous when he sees Buffy talking to Angel and when Angel gives Buffy his jacket. My thoughts are that Xander wants to make Buffy jealous as well, and that's part of the reason he tries to get involved with the She-Mantis.
- While being seduced by the She-Mantis, Xander mumbles, "I love Buffy." Which I think only proves my theory on him wanting to make Buffy jealous. Also, he says he loves her, which is a huge plus, of course.

- Xander is jealous of Owen Thurman, the guy Buffy's going on a date with. He suggests following Buffy on the date, using every excuse he can think up to make it seem like Owen is bad for Buffy.
- While Buffy is changing for her date with Owen, Xander is still in the room. Buffy and Willow command him to look away while Buffy dresses. He turns away, but he tries to look at her through the mirror. This has no real significance, except to point out Xander's attraction to her.
- When Buffy feels upset about Owen, Xander tries to see if he's interested in dating him and says, "What you need is a guy who already knows your deepest darkest secrets and still says, 'Hey, I like that girl.'" Unfortunately, he never gets to finish and Buffy never gets the hint.

- Xander is posessed by a hyena, and his animal senses heightened, he ignores Willow and treats Buffy kind of like his "mate." Now that he's more dangerous, Xander thinks that Buffy will like him because she likes Angel. Again, although he's posessed, he feels the only way to prove himself to her is to be dangerous.

- Throughout the entire episode, Xander is very jealous of Angel. First when Buffy tells them Angel spent the night, then when he finds out that Angel is a vampire and Buffy still loves him. Then at the end, he worries that Buffy and Angel may be kissing.
Top
- Xander admits to Willow that he was still attracted to the vampire version of Buffy. It may have been her looks that first drew his attention, but now Xander's grown beyond that and really loves her.

- Xander gathers up enough courage to ask Buffy to the Spring Fling. She makes it very clear that she doesn't want to ruin their friendship by going out with him. Which may even suggest that she does have feelings for him that would ruin their friendship.
- Again, Xander's feelings for Bufy take priority over everything else when he actually turns to Angel for help in finding Buffy. He must love her a lot to look past his hatred of Angel for her safety.
- While talking with Xander, Angel realizes Xander's strong feelings for Buffy and says, "You're in love with her," to which Xander replies, "Aren't you?" I don't think he has any problems with admitting he loves Buffy, and he thinks that he has good reason for feeling the way he does.
- Angel and Xander find Buffy has drowned, and since Angel is all dead and stuff, he can't revive her. Xander preforms CPR, and when Buffy opens her eyes, she doesn't even see Angel there and the first thing she says is Xander's name.

- Buffy comes back to Sunnydale after visiting her dad for the summer. Xander immediately forgets that he almost smooched with Willow (Poor Willow... But yay for Buffy and Xander!) and hugs Buffy eagerly-- twice. He then compliments her hair and it's obvious that he's still in love with her. Even though in the beginning it seemed as if he moved on when he almost kissed Willow, all it took was Buffy's presence for him to remember his feelings.
- Xander and Buffy dance at the Bronze, and it's so carnal, Xander himself is not sure what to make of it when she just leaves him standing there after whispering, "Did I ever thank you for saving my life? Don't you wish I would?" Buffy does it only to make Angel jealous, and succeeds in hurting Angel, Willow, and Xander.
Top
- Angel is jealous because of the Buffy/Xander dance in When She Was Bad. Buffy does tell him that she doesn't love Xander, although Angel is still pretty jealous with the amount of time Buffy and Xander spend together.
Top
- Buffy finally thanks Xander for saving her life in Prophecy Girl when he is down about what happened with Ampata. Maybe her feelings don't totally match his yet, but she doesn't like seeing him bummed, and would probably do a lot to make him happy.
Top
- Buffy decides to go to the frat party with Tom Warner. Xander follows her, partly out of jealousy, but mostly to protect her. It shows that he'll go to great lengths to make sure she's okay.
- After Tom Warner is out of the picture, Xander resumes his hatred and jealousy towards Angel. Just a nice thought, dunno why.

- After Buffy saves Xander from getting beat up by Larry, he's angry because she made him look like a coward. He finally forgives her when she rests her chin on his shoulder. And again, this shows how much it means to him that Buffy sees him as a guy and not someone who needs to be saved.
- When Xander first sees Buffy's Halloween costume, he says, "Too bulky... I prefer my women in spandex." But after seeing her in it, he is amazed and completely renounces spandex.

- Buffy finds out that Xander remembers his actions in The Pack. Now they're both aware of what he did.
- Willow says to Buffy, "It used to be easy to tell if a boy liked you. He'd punch you on the arm, and then run back to his friends." Then Xander walks up and punches Buffy on the arm.
- Xander saves Buffy's life again when she is almost killed by the vamp Theresa Klusmeyer-- a present Angel left for her. She then takes comfort in his arms when they share a little-bit-too-long embrace, a segue to an almost-kiss. Buffy then walks away and Xander mutters, "Oh no, my life's not too complicated."
Top
- Xander accompanies Buffy on her patrol. After she tells him that she feels he could do much better than Cordelia (Buffy, maybe?), he says, "The only other person I'm interested in is unavailable." He's basically letting her know that he still likes her, even though he's with Cordelia.
- Buffy tells Xander that the fact that he didn't take advantage of her while she was under the spell meant a lot to her. He respects her enough to not do anything like that, she realizes, and she might see that he cares about her and just may be different from other guys.

- When Buffy gets sick and is put into the hospital, Xander takes care of her. He's the one who carries her into the hospital and demands help and he stands guard at the hospital, making sure Angel can't get to her.
- Xander can finally stand up to Angel when he tries to see Buffy. Angel calls Xander Buffy's "white knight," and he is Buffy white knight. Despite what everyone thinks about him being useless, he's always there to save Buffy and help her out. Angel accuses him of still loving Buffy, to which he cannot deny. He does reply, "You're gonna die, and I'm gonna be there." You can tell he's terrified, but he's doing it for Buffy.
- The end of the episode shows Buffy and Xander lying in bed together while they watch TV, and Willow lays beside the bed. It's cute, makes you wonder how they decided on that arrangement.
Top
- When Xander Willow, Cordelia, and Buffy see Xander in his Speedo, Buffy was definitely in awe (And me too!). She realizes that Xander is more than the guy she thought he was. He's almost a man. A man with an excellent body.
- Again, Xander saves Buffy, this time from the evil fish dudes and the coach. Just maintaining his status as her white knight.
