Wherever evil lurks, wherever
dastardly deeds are done, there you will find the mutants. Sworn
enemies of the Thundercats from the planet Plun-Darr, they use what little
intelligence they can muster to. . . um, well, they try to destroy the
Thundercats. Do they get bonus points for that?

Long before Thundera's destruction, the leader of the mutant armies was a rat known as Ratilla the Terrible. This rodent was a powerful general/dictator and possessed the legendary Sword of Plun-Darr, a sword Mumm-Ra later recovered when he reformed the planet of Thundera. I don't know much more about this feared mutant, but I believe his descendent is Rataro, a dangerous mutant that the Thundercats periodically encounter. Oh, and he and Jaga aren't exactly on the best of terms, either. Once, Ratilla almost made off with the Treasure of Thundera. Fortunately, Jaga stopped him just in time and then promptly threw the Sword of Plun-Darr into the core of Thundera. This amazingly bright move eventually caused the planet's destruction, so Ratilla got his revenge after all. Go mutants. |

The descendent of Ratilla the Terrible, Rataro carries on the legacy of of his ancestors with big guns, big ships, and powerful weapons. It's a shame he isn't in more episodes, because he's actually a pretty neat character. He has charisma, he has more than the average amount of mutant intelligence, and he's got a nasty, scheming mind. He's not afraid to resort to coercion or brute force to get what he wants, either. He's got weapons called the Rat's Eyes/ Rat Sais. Basically, they're two daggers with eyes in them and they shoot things. Great fun and excitement. Let's hear it for the rodent of Plun-Darr! |

The mutants followed the Thundercats to Third Earth after the destruction of Thundera, hoping to exterminate all of their hated enemy. The reptilian Slithe led the mutants, but they were defeated and the Thundercats established themselves on Third Earth. Using his reptilian cunning and sheer size, Slithe maintained leadership over the other mutants, established a base in Castle Plun-Darr, and continued to wage war against the Thundercats. Of all the mutants, he is probably the most underhanded. He keeps careful track of what the other mutants are doing, knowing their loyalty to be half-hearted at best. He likes to ride around in a vehicle called the Nosediver. When faced with "hand-to-hand" combat, he uses his tail to knock opponents down. Though not the brightest of the mutants, he has a twisted mind of cunning strategies that the Thundercats are forced to contend with. I bet he could also make a lot of lizard-skin purses, but I don't condone the use of animal skins in clothing items. Grrrr... |

Vultureman is the brains of the mutants, building all kinds of wacky inventions that have a tendency to break at crucial moments. Physically, he is the weakest of the mutants. And though he is a semi-brilliant scientist, he is lacking on the social end. The other mutants don't like him, he doesn't like them, and he often goes to the Lunatacs with his ideas and plans. Sometimes he just strikes out on his own. Another problem with Vultureman is that he can't concoct a workable scheme by himself. He doesn't take the actions of others into account. He also has an annoying habit of squawking in the middle of a sentence. My opinion is that he has a throat problem and should seek medical attention, but I suppose the mutant budget for health care does not amount to much. |

For those simian fans of you out there, here's the monkey of the mutants: Monkian. (I love the original names on this show.) Monkian and Slithe are physically the strongest of the ranking mutants, but Monkian can easily claim the award for being the mental weakling. He likes to ride around on a Skycutter and has a shield that can spit rocks in the first season and energy bolts in the latter seasons. Many times, he's sent to do odd jobs for the mutants because he can be talked into doing it. He's very good in the treetops but he's also a trifle on the clumsy side. Monkian also likes to say "Hoo, Hoo" a lot. I haven't figured out if this means anything in some primitive form of ape dialect, but no one else seems to make any sense out of it, so I guess it's okay. |

Scavenger and coward, Jackalman is one of the weaker mutants. He's fairly quick, but instead of using this as an advantage in battle, he uses it as an advantage in retreat. I have to give the jackal credit, though. He's got some cunning and is pretty good at grasping the essence of tricky situations. He doesn't do anything with this knowledge, but sometimes the other mutants can put it to use. He and Monkian are fairly good friends, which is more than can be said for the rest of the mutants. Sometimes he gets fed up with the other mutants, but there's really nowhere else for the poor jackal to go. He doesn't like the Lunatacs, he's afraid of Mumm-Ra, and he can't battle the Thundercats on his own, as he found out in a few episodes. For strange reason, though, he's probably my favorite mutant. Weird. Maybe I just like the taste of jackal... |
What are these things? Are there more like them? Can I find them in more biographies?
Okay, this is psycho. Get me back to the main page.
