The inhabitants of Mars, worried by the fact that Earth's humans might spread their violent ways to other planets, send two messengers to research the peculiar phenomenon known only to the human race: murder.
By using their temporal condenser, a machine that can stop and reverse the space-time continuum, they plan to study a murder by watching it in slow-motion and reverse much the way we might stop a movie and run it backwards. Before they realize what they have done, they are involved in a comedy of errors around a lovers quarrel.
